Bismillahirrahmanirrahim, on this occasion we will discuss the evidence of Allah’s power. Hopefully, this discussion will help us become increasingly pious servants.

May Allah bless the Muslims. Every Muslim believes that this universe, the heavens and the earth, and everything in them, is created by Allah and is under His control. No one created or controls this universe except Allah. This is a fundamental belief, even a natural instinct, that Allah has instilled in the hearts of mankind.
This is what the ulama call monotheism rububiyah . Belief that Allah is Almighty in terms of creating, organizing and controlling the universe. Humanity has basically acknowledged this in the depths of their hearts, even those who are polytheists and infidels admit this. If they were asked who created the heavens and the earth, they would definitely answer Allah. If they are asked who provides sustenance, they answer Allah. Allah Ta’ala says,
قُلۡ مَن يَرۡزُقُكُم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ أَمَّن يَمۡلِكُ ٱلسَّمۡعَ وَٱلۡأَبۡصَٰرَ وَمَن يُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡحَيَّ مِنَ ٱلۡمَيِّتِ وَيُخۡرِجُ ٱلۡمَيِّتَ مِنَ ٱلۡحَيِّ وَمَن Download تَتَّقُونَ ٣١
“Say: “Who gives you sustenance from the heavens and the earth, or who has the power (to create) hearing and seeing, and who brings the living from the dead and the dead from the living and who regulates all affairs?” Then they will answer: “Allah”. So say, “Why don’t you fear Him?” (QS. Yunus: 31)
In these days, when plagues have struck various countries and affected all levels of society, both rich and poor, both high-ranking and ordinary, people have once again realized that humans are powerless before God’s power. Even a tiny creature called a virus can “topple” the arrogance and pride of wealthy and powerful nations.
Today we are again aware that humans cannot do anything without God’s help and assistance. Therefore, the Prophet sallallaahu ‘alaihi wa sallam has taught this basic creed lesson in his words to Ibn Abbas radhiyallahu’anhuma ,
يَا غُلاَمُ، إِنِّي أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ؛ God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing, God willing. God willing فَاسْتَعِنْ God willing God bless you قَدْ كَتَبَهُ اللهُ لَكَ، وَإِنْ لَمْ يَضُرُّوكَ إِلاَّ بِشَيْءٍ قَدْ كََبَهُ اللهُ عَلَيْكَ، may Allah bless him and give him peace of mind
“Son, I taught you several sentences: Take care of Allah, He will surely take care of you. Take care of Allah, you will surely find Him before you. If you want to ask, ask Allah, and if you want to ask for help, ask Allah. Know that, if all the people unite to give you a benefit, then you will not get anything other than what Allah has ordained for you. And even if they unite to do something that harms you, then it will not harm you except what that God has ordained for you. The pen has been removed and the pages are dry.” (HR. Tirmidhi no. 2516, Imam Ahmad in Al Musnad: 1/307)
Imam Ibn Daqiq Al-‘Ied (rahimullah) stated that one of the benefits of this hadith is that the Prophet sallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam gave guidance and direction to his companions to rely solely on Allah and not rely on other than Allah in all matters, whether small or large (see Addurrah Assalafiyah , p. 153).
Muslims who are blessed by Allah. We as humans often forget this. Many people rely too much on their abilities, intelligence, expertise, strength, power, wealth, or greatness. In fact, without God’s help, humans cannot do anything. Laa haula wa laa quwwata illa billaah , there is no power and strength except with the help of Allah. This great sentence contains the obligation to put our trust in Allah alone and that we always ask Allah for help in dealing with affairs and problems.
If we realize and remember that the world and everything in it belongs to God, and that God can govern this universe according to His will and wisdom, as He desires, then we should also realize that no one has the right to be worshipped but God. Because only God rules the universe. He also guarantees the sustenance of all humans and even every living creature.
Most people, when they are struck by calamity and disaster, return to Allah and pray to Him alone so that they can be immediately delivered from disaster and danger. However, when Allah had granted them salvation, suddenly they relapsed, sinking back into shirk and disbelief.
Allah Ta’ala says,
فَإِذَا رَكِبُواْ فِي ٱلۡفُلۡكِ دَعَوُاْ ٱللَّهَ مُخۡلِصِينَ لَهُ ٱلدِّينَ فَلَمَّا نَجَّىٰهُمۡ إِلَى ٱلۡبَرِّ إِذَا هُمۡ يُشۡرِكُونَ ٦٥
“So when they boarded the ship they prayed to Allah by purifying their obedience to Him; then when Allah rescued them to land, suddenly they (returned) to associating partners with (Allah)” (QS. Alankabut: 65)
This is an attitude of selflessness and ingratitude.
Muslims who are blessed by Allah, we have no doubt that Allah is able to lift all forms of calamity and disaster that befall humans. Allah Ta’ala says,
God willing ٱلسُّوٓءَ وَيَجۡعَلُكُمۡ خُلَفَآءَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِۗ أَءِلَٰهٞ مَّعَ ٱللَّهِۚ قَلِيلٗا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٦٢
“Or who accepts (the prayer of) a person who is in trouble when he prays to Him, and who removes the distress and who makes you (humans) caliphs on earth? Is there (another) god beside Allah? Very little do you remember (His)” (QS. Annaml:62)
Even the polytheists of earlier times believed that only Allah could provide them with help in times of danger and distress. Therefore, the polytheists of earlier times prayed to Allah alone when they were in difficult and critical situations, purifying their prayers for Him (see Ibthal At-Tandid, p. 87 ).
Allah Ta’ala says,
وَإِذَا مَسَّ ٱلنَّاسَ ضُرّٞ دَعَوۡاْ رَبَّهُم مُّنِيبِينَ Allah’s blessings مِّنۡهُم بِرَبِّهِمۡ يُشۡرِكُونَ ٣٣
“And when people are touched by a danger, they call on their Lord to return to repentance to Him, then when Allah feels from them a little mercy from Him, suddenly some of them associate partners with their Lord” (QS. Arrum: 33)
These clear verses teach us that the attitude of the former polytheists when they were struck by a disaster was that they returned to Allah and abandoned their deities besides Him. As narrated by Muhammad bin Ishaq, from Ikrimah bin Abu Jahl who said that the polytheists at that time, when they were on a ship and threatened by a storm or ocean waves, they said, “O people, purify your requests/prayers for your Rabb. Because no one can save you in this situation except Him (Allah).” (see Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azhim , 6/160 cet. at-Taufiqiyah).
Allah has also confirmed this in His word.
وَإِذَا مَسَّكُمُ ٱلضُّرُّ فِي ٱلۡبَحۡرِ ضَلَّ مَن تَدۡعُونَ God willing أَعۡرَضۡتُمۡۚ وَكَانَ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ كَفُورًا ٦٧
“And when you are in danger in the sea, whoever you call to except Him will be lost, so when He saves you on land, you turn away. And humans are always ungrateful.” (QS. Alisra’: 67)
What lessons can we learn from this epidemic disaster that has shocked the world? Yes, we can live a lot. One of them is that we must rely on Allah and not on our own abilities. We are weak and Allah is strong. We are not capable and Allah is able. We do not know while Allah knows best. We are also obliged to purify our worship of Allah, we must not worship anyone other than Him. Thus, this disaster should make people conscious again to believe in monotheism and thank Allah for all His blessings. Humans should remember that the main cause of this disaster is because of shirk and disbelief committed by mankind on this earth.
Allah Ta’ala says,
ظَهَرَ ٱلۡفَسَادُ فِي ٱلۡبَرِّ وَٱلۡبَحۡرِ بِمَا كَسَبَتۡ God willing لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَرۡجِعُونَ ٤١
“There has been visible damage on land and in the sea caused by the actions of human hands, so that Allah will feel for them part of (the consequences of) their actions, so that they will return (to the right path)” (QS. Arrum: 41)
In other words, after this calamity strikes, we should become more sincere in our worship of Allah. We should abandon all forms of worship other than Him, whatever they may be. We should cleanse our hearts of shirk (polytheism), hypocrisy, superstition, showing off, and arrogance. If these calamities don’t bring us to these realizations, then you need to be wary. Because it could be that Allah has sealed your heart.
As the Arabs say,
“How is it possible that the wound is cut.
It can make people who are already dead sick.”
People whose hearts are dead can no longer recognize good and bad. Can no longer differentiate between truth and falsehood. He does not want to submit except to what suits his lustful tastes. Lust is its priest and ignorance is its vehicle. He conquered his common sense in a state of being colonized by the seduction and deceit of the invaders towards the valley of hell.
