In just a few hours, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be released, which for the first time in a long time will return the series to its roots. Fans of the franchise will be able to once again immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the first parts and enjoy “classic gameplay”.
Ubisoft originally planned to release Mirage as an add-on for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, but after just a couple of weeks of work, they decided to turn it into a standalone game. Today, we’re covering all the details of the upcoming hit.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Gameplay and Mechanics
Since Mirage is a kind of homage to the first Assassin’s Creed , the gameplay will give gamers an experience that is largely inspired by the 2007 classic. Particular emphasis is placed on stealth and parkour.
There will be Invisible Headquarters scattered around the world, where Basim can talk to allies, take on additional tasks, and simply take a breather after missions. Similar headquarters were present in the first part of the series.
Setting and location of Assassin’s Creed Mirage
The action takes place in Baghdad, one of the largest cities of the era. It was constantly developing due to the fact that the Silk Road passed through it. In the center of Baghdad is the Round City of al-Mansurah or the City of the Worlds, where the upper class lives, and around it is a more traditional city, each district of which has its own focus: science, trade, industry, military affairs, and so on.
It is known that the map area will be comparable to Paris from Assassin’s Creed Unity. Also, the developers have repeatedly emphasized that they will try to make Baghdad “as alive as possible”, since it never sleeps, and its streets are teeming with crowds of people – be it morning, afternoon, evening or night.
At the same time, the townspeople themselves will actively react to the player’s actions. The developers from Ubisoft emphasize that they approached the recreation of the architecture and appearance of the city with particular scrupulousness.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Graphics and Technology
Mirage is being developed on the AnvilNext 2.0 engine. All Assassin’s Creed titles have been released on it, starting with Unity. The title claims support for DLSS, FSR, and XeSS technologies from Intel, which helped Ubisoft create the game.
Combat System in Assassin’s Creed Mirage
Ubisoft has repeatedly emphasized that Basim is not a fierce warrior. In open confrontation, he is ineffective, since he dies from several blows. The character prefers to eliminate his targets without unnecessary noise – in this case, the hidden blade is an indispensable assistant .
The developers call the main character of AC Mirage one of the fastest assassins, so the gamer will have to rely more on agility and cunning – both his own and Basim
This is also related to the Mark and Execute mechanic from the last two Splinter Cells (Conviction and Blacklist). Basim will be able to mark several nearby targets in stealth, after which he will make a beautiful series of kills. Something similar could be seen in Ghost of Tsushima, albeit in a different form.
The developers explain the mechanics by the fact that during such series, Basim acts so quickly that the Animus does not have time to register his movements.
Stealth in Assassin’s Creed Mirage
The hero can hide in the crowd, haystacks and use other elements of the environment. The main character’s arsenal also includes smoke bombs, throwing knives, darts, sleeping mines and noisemakers.
In addition, Baghdad has many tall buildings that you can climb. The creators of the game built the design of the city in such a way that the player could escape from the guards at any time on the roofs. The gamer will be able to get to another part of Baghdad, moving only on buildings. Thus, it will be possible to avoid unnecessary attention from the enemy.
It is necessary to study patrol routes and plan the attack on the guards more carefully. In this matter, the protagonist will be helped by an eagle named Enkidu, thanks to which it is possible to mark enemies and inspect the area.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage Plot
Mirage will tell the story of Basim’s development. At the very beginning of AC Mirage, Basim is only 17 years old – he is engaged in thievery and hides from the city guard. Later, the hero is taken under the wing of the invisible.
Basim’s main teacher and mentor will be Roshan, an invisible of Persian origin and former slave. In the following years, the hero will become a member of the Brotherhood of the Invisible, where he will rise to the rank of Master Invisible. During his service to Credo, he will visit the fortress of Alamut under construction.
Several centuries later, the organization of the invisible will turn into the Brotherhood of Assassins. Alamut is the base of the future assassins. In the game, the developers use it to pay tribute to Masyaf from AC1.
Roshan is an important character. She will act as Basim’s mentor and will be present in the story from the beginning to the very end. Most of the game’s events will take place in 861, when Basim is 26 years old – another 20 years before the events of Valhalla.
In general, the developers do not go into details of the story, noting that players will learn a lot during the passage. The same Order of the Ancients is on the home stretch, and the cell in Baghdad is one of the last in the world. The Order is slowly beginning to transform into the Templars.
