The Taj Mahal, the beauty of a physical vision, is an ideal indelible mark in the architecture of the Mogul period. The building is currently located on the right bank of the Yamuna River in Agra, located in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

It is the mausoleum of the beloved wife of Emperor Shah Jahan, Empress Arjun Bano Begum also known as Mumtaz Mahal. Ustad Isa Khan of Turkey was credited with being the chief architect of this building. The Taj Mahal is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

But according to another version, it is believed that the Taj Mahal was not built by Shah Jahan for his wife. It is a palace called Tejomahalaya, which was a palace built by the Hindu king Raja Man Singh. It was not built for the purpose of the tomb. The building was closed by Shah Jahan. It has guest houses, security quarters, horse stables and other buildings not connected to the structure of a mausoleum.

Inspirational Building of Taj Mahal Design:

There are two pre-built and existing buildings in Delhi, from where the Taj Mahal design came.

These buildings are:

  • Humayun’s Tomb, Delhi
  • A special structure, Mogul Rais of Delhi, Khan’s Tomb.

site layout:

The main structure occupies a small portion of the relatively entire architectural layout. The site is rectangular measuring 579 meters by 305 meters. A square section of 305 meters was set aside on the north side with a white marble building on a raised platform on the extreme north side adjoining the river in the center.

A high boundary wall connects the site with a wide octagonal citadel at each corner. A monumental entrance is placed in the center of the southern side. Stables, outhouses and other edits were added to the front southern court.

Entrances and routes:

The southern entrance is with chamfered angles, arches, parapets and vaulted ceilings. Access to the main enclosure garden is provided through this gate. The front view of the Taj Mahal building and its garden is seen from this point of view. The garden is placed on the principle of Charbagh.

It is completely symmetrical with paved paths, lawns, shrubs, flowering plants, fountains and elevated lotus pools, all arranged to reflect the images. A direct route leads to the main structure.

Main enclosure:

Important structures are placed at the northern end of this building, with the tomb building at the center. Marble also has two supporting versions symmetrically placed on each side. Of these two, there is a mosque on the west side and a replica of the mosque on the other side only for symmetry in the east. It can be used as a guesthouse.

Main Tomb Building:

The main white marble mausoleum building is situated in the middle of a large high platform, which is 57 meters square and 6.7 meters high. It is entered by symmetrical stairs built in the center on the south side of the terrace. The main building on the terrace is square with chamfered corners.

The interior consists of a main octagonal central hall which also has auxiliary chambers which are octagonally placed in each corner connected by the radiation pathway. The main hall is of two storeys, with a cenotaph chamber with descending steps. The main hall was covered by a hemisphere vault, which had a double dome inner shell.

The main dome above it was built leaving a large void in the middle. The perforated marble screen filled the arched windows in two levels. Daddos have some carvings inside the corner rooms. Each part of the monument depicts the beauty, beauty, curves, decoration that characterizes a royal woman to whom the memorial was dedicated.

It was carried to a height of 33 meters, with a cupola above each corner, while above the center is the great bulbous dome reaching a height of 57 meters. The pawn is the same and all around it. A tower in three steps crowned by a kiosk with cupola roof rises to a height of 42 meters from each corner on the roof. The same Taj Mahal building would become an architectural explosion without these four minarets.

Outer size:

There are similar towers all around the fine building of marble. The façade has its large central arch and two arched windows, one at the bottom and the other at the top. The perforated screen opens all arched except for the front entrance.

A beautiful and finely curved dome rests atop a circular dom to a height of 57 meters in the center. Similar small domes were placed in the corner rooms. The merlent parapets above the walls adorn the building’s horizon. The fine lines of stone joints not only divided the surfaces, but also enriched the beauty of the surfaces.

Ratio:

The factor responsible for the beauty of the Taj Mahal is not only the finer material of the white marble, but it lies mainly in its proportions, the agglomeration of its parts, their size, simple curves, rhythmic settlement, the interconnection of the parts overall. Its proportions are simple as to its size. The full width is equal to the height and the height of the main vertical lower building body is equal to the height of the dome. The grandeur of the pawn lies in the volume and shape of the dome supported on a lofty drum.
