Right after the launch of the new Chrome 90, this week, Edge’s turn has come. Microsoft’s new browser has a parallel development to that of Google’s browser, by sharing the same engine with it. However, Microsoft takes advantage of each update to include a large number of functions and features developed by it. And the new Edge 90 reaches all users full of all these news and improvements, starting with a new mode designed to protect the little ones.
The truth is that Microsoft is taking the development of its web browser very seriously. Gone is the past when Edge was barely updated, or the era of Internet Explorer, which has always lagged behind. The new Chromium-based Edge is constantly evolving, to the point of being ahead of Chrome and Firefox in terms of features.
What’s new in Edge 90
The new Edge 90 brings quite a few changes spread over many of the browser’s functions. Although, without a doubt, the most important is the new mode for children.
Safe browsing for kids
Microsoft already let us see this new navigation mode last February in the Canary version of the browser. More and more minors are connecting to the Internet, just as there are more and more dangers that are hidden in every corner of the Internet. Therefore, in addition to having them always monitored, it is advisable to have a parental control system that prevents the minor from leaving the safe spaces and reaching websites that are not suitable for their age or that may be dangerous.
Edge’s new kids mode does just that. This mode is responsible for providing a safe environment through which minors can connect to the Internet and exclusively consume safe content, appropriate for the whole family.
We can launch this mode at any time from the profile section of the browser, and choose one of the two age ranges that it offers us: or from 5 to 8 years old, or from 9 years old.
The browser is placed in full screen, and the child will not be able to exit that way. Microsoft’s security systems will ensure that you can only visit websites that are appropriate for your age. And best of all, we don’t need to configure anything at all to be able to use this method. There is no longer any excuse to protect the little ones.
New download panel
Another important novelty that we can find in the new Edge is a new drop-down panel for downloads. Chrome, as always, has shown the download history and active downloads on an internal page of the browser. Edge, at the beginning, copied this system, but now it has opted for a more Firefox-style appearance, being able to see the downloads in a drop-down panel with a click on the browser’s own taskbar.
Improvements when printing PDF
The PDF viewer Edge is one of the best features of this browser. Despite being the best free PDF viewer that we can have in Windows 10 right now, Microsoft still keeps improving it. The new version of the browser brings an improvement when it comes to printing these documents.
As of Edge 90, we can place ourselves on a specific page of the document and, by choosing the option to print, we will see the possibility of directly printing the page we are on, instead of the entire document.
Other changes
Other novelties that we can find in the new Edge 90 are:
- Ability to delete multiple passwords saved in the manager with a single click.
- Improved rendering of fonts, improving clarity when reading many webs.
- Improvements to auto-fill forms.
- Ability to search both local browsing history and synced history.
Download and update
The browser is designed to update automatically in Windows 10. To do this, it has a service that automatically searches for new versions and installs them whenever they are available. We can also force the update by entering the Menu> Help> About Microsoft Edge section . Thus, the browser will automatically search for new versions and download them if they are available.
Anyway, at the time of writing the news, the Edge updater is not working, and it gives an error 0x800421F7 . This error should go away soon.
