You probably already know that in Dragon’s Dogma 2 you can’t use some equipment and skills until you learn the corresponding calling. However, quite quickly the game will give you the opportunity to expand your arsenal with weapons that will open access to additional classes: Warrior and Sorcerer. Specifically, we are talking about the missing arch-staff and two-handed sword, which you will be asked to find in the calling guild.
How to unlock vocations without completing a quest
In theory, you may already have an archstaff and a two-handed sword in your inventory, so you can head straight to the Wernworth Vocation Guild and give them to Klaus, as he will accept any weapon of this type for the Warrior and Sorcerer. Just select the appropriate dialogue options to give the items, after which you will gain access to study two new classes.
If you don’t have the necessary weapon, there is an alternative method that will take about the same amount of time as completing the quest, but you won’t have to risk your life.
Head to Border Town, which can be reached by carriage from Vernworth West Station.
Once you arrive, find a blacksmith or weapon merchant and buy any two-handed sword and archstaff that are appropriate for those classes. Then simply return to the Wernworth Vocation Guild and give them to Klaus to unlock new vocations.
Also, if you are not in a hurry to become a warrior or a sorcerer, you can do nothing at all, since these classes will open automatically upon completion of the coronation, which will happen during the story mission “Fairy Tale of Deception”.
How to start the quest “Desperate Search for a Calling
Although you will have to find ways to unlock new classes on your own in the future , when you first find yourself in the capital representative office of the Vernworth Vocation Guild, you will be offered to perform a small service in exchange for training in two new fighting styles at once.
To do this, in a conversation with the guild representative Klaus, select the option “Change vocation”, after which you will be given the task of finding the gunsmith in the local forge and asking about the missing goods. He is located in the market square nearby.
The blacksmith will tell you that the cursed goblins stole his arch-staff and two-handed sword, after which a mark with the proposed search area will appear on your map.
However, before heading there, we recommend stopping by one more place near the central square of Vernworth, namely the tavern.
There you can take a quest to exterminate monsters from Guard Captain Brant, who will also direct you to the cave to the goblins, so you can kill two birds with one stone.
According to the blacksmith, goblin thieves have been spotted near the abandoned Trevo Mine, which is located far outside the city. Unless you’ve placed the Return Crystals nearby, the only way to get there is on foot, so prepare well for the upcoming trip and head out there rested and in full combat readiness.
Once you’re ready, follow the route shown on the map above until you see the entrance to the abandoned Trevo Mine. There, among other chests, you’ll need to find two specific ones, and you can do this in any order, but below we’ll describe how it happened in our case.
How to find the Archstaff
After you go down into the mine and deal with the first group of goblins, head forward along the tunnel until you come out into an open area, then turn left.
Next you will find yourself in an even larger cave with other enemies, where they will try to cover you with stones. You need to squeeze through a narrow passage between two boulders.
Then move along the tunnel until you come out into an open area with a wooden bridge and a new group of enemies.
Here you also need to turn into a small passage on the left between the rocks. As you move through the narrow tunnel, you will eventually come to a dead end where a chest containing the staff will be located.
How to find a two-handed sword
You will find the second stolen weapon simply by moving further down the tunnel. To do this, return from the dead end with the chest, go up and at the fork, choose either of the two passages, since further on the paths unite again. After dealing with the next goblins, go down into the cave and move forward until you find yourself on an open area with a wooden door.
Reward for completing the quest
Once you have the staff and greatsword, return to the Vernworth Vocation Guild and give them to Klaus.
Yes, you won’t be left with a weapon, but you will receive 500 gold coins, 1200 experience points, and most importantly, the opportunity to open the Warrior and Sorcerer classes.
In short, the first allows you to use two-handed swords and play the role of a tank, and the second is a more advanced version of the mage. Moreover, you can teach these callings to both your main character and Pawns.
