One of the main features of the original Dragon’s Dogma were hired companions called Pawns. These are weak-willed creatures from another world whose main goal is to faithfully serve the master who summoned them on the other side of the Rift. Those who played the first part are already familiar with this unusual mechanic, but for everyone else it may raise certain questions, for example, how the hiring of Pawns occurs and whether it is possible to let them go. You will find the answers in this article.
How to hire a Pawn
As in the first part, you will be told about this possibility at the initial stages of the game according to the plot. More precisely, it will happen on the territory of the Border Outpost, where you will first deal with the magical Rift Stone.
In essence, this is a portal to some kind of interworld where Pawns live waiting to meet a new owner. Moreover, they exist simultaneously in the worlds of all players, which allows you to recommend the most skilled mercenaries to each other and even offer to hire your own Pawn, which you create at the beginning of the game, just like the main character.
Pawns vary in level, so it would be strange if the conditions for recruiting everyone were the same. That’s why next to their name and level there is a number and the letters KR. This is the cost of their services in the local currency – Rift Crystals. You can find them in chests, get them as trophies on the battlefield and earn them for completing various quests.
You can also meet other Pawns as NPCs while traveling the world. They can also be hired, but they are often inferior to their Rift counterparts in every way, but their rate is also relatively low.
The main thing to remember is that the maximum squad size is 4 characters, including you and your main Pawn, so you will often encounter a situation where you have to part with someone.
How to Fire a Pawn
Since the essence of the Pawns’ existence is to serve any master, there is nothing wrong with refusing her services for one reason or another.
This is done very simply and painlessly – through the menu of interaction with the Pawn. However, it is still not worth parting too quickly, and here is why.
The thing is, due to the weight limit, you can give the Pawn some valuable item for safekeeping, and when you part ways, you will lose the contents of her inventory. So before you fire the Pawn, don’t forget to take all the things that might be useful.
On the other hand, you have the opportunity to thank a mercenary for good service by leaving him something as a gift . In fact, this way you will also thank its owner, if it was someone else’s created Pawn, which is actively used by players to pass items to each other.
How to resurrect a Pawn
But if, on the contrary, you have managed to become very attached to your Pawn and shudder at the mere thought that your faithful comrade in arms may die, we will reassure you in advance. Even if you did not manage to raise the wounded Pawn during the battle and its lifeless body remained lying on the battlefield, not all is lost.
All you need to do is find the nearest Rift Stone and select “Browse Previously Hired Pawns” from the search menu. A list of all the mercenaries you have worked with during the game will appear on the screen.
Next, you just need to select the desired Pawn and summon it from the other world, or, in truth, hire it again for a certain amount of crystals.
