Dragon’s Dogma 2 Guide – How to Become a Magic Archer

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an immensely huge game, which at some point may even seem too drawn out. Apparently, that’s why the developers decided to give players additional motivation to continue the journey in the form of special classes that open up at later stages of the game. If you’re already thinking about quitting the game, we advise you to reconsider, as you’re missing out on a lot, such as the opportunity to become a real Magic Archer.

How to unlock the Archer Mage vocation

In case you weren’t aware, in Dragon’s Dogma 2 classes are called Callings, and in addition to the four starting ones, you have the opportunity to unlock new, more complex advanced Callings as you progress.

As for the Magic Archer , this opportunity will present itself closer to the end of the main story. Yes, if you want, you can try to speedrun the game and get to later locations as quickly as possible, but we strongly advise against doing this, since even having received the abilities of this powerful class, you will most likely experience serious difficulties in further playthrough due to insufficient leveling and lack of necessary equipment, and you will also miss a lot of interesting content.

As with other advanced callings, you need to find a master who can teach you this. The skill of a magic archer is only available to an elf named Cliodna, who lives on the Volcanic Island south of the desert region of Battal, where you end up in the second half of the game. However, this wise warrior will not share her secret knowledge with you until you help her hapless husband Gustav in the quest “Goodness is in the little things”.

How to complete the quest “Goodness is in the little things”

In fact, the first thing you will meet upon arrival at Volcanic Island is Gustav, if you got here through Drabnir’s Grotto. The stately elf’s husband will be an elderly dwarf , who will slowly hobble along the road.

After talking to the old man, you learn that his back is hurting and, in order to get rid of the pain and get home, he needs three wild flowers, from which you can quickly make a healing potion .

There are enough flowers growing nearby, so you can easily help Gustav with this problem. The main thing is that they are different.

After receiving the necessary ingredients, the old man will not immediately feel better, so he will ask you to take him to his house, which is located on a small peninsula nearby, to brew a potion there and thank you for your help.

There you will meet Cliodna, who is very worried about her husband’s deteriorating health and will ask you to accompany him to the healing hot springs.

We recommend that you take some Triton Tincture with you before you leave if you want to unlock another hidden class in the future , but we’ll talk about that next time.

The path to the hot springs is indeed long, and Gustav’s speed of movement and the presence of a large number of enemies in this location create additional difficulties. However, there are two ways to make the task a little easier:

  • Clear the path first alone , then return for the dwarf.
  • Place one of the Return Crystals near Gustav’s house, then run to the hot springs past the enemies, and leave the second one there to teleport back and forth with the old man using the travel stone.

Once you reach the Volcanic Island Camp, you need to go through it and climb to the hill where the hot springs are located.

There you will also be able to talk to Cliodna, who, in gratitude for healing her husband, will initiate you into the Magic Archers and even give you a scroll with a powerful skill, “Arrow of the Martyr”.

If the elf suddenly turned out to be not so grateful and decided to keep the scroll, most likely a bug occurred. However, some players report that if you visit her in the house a little later and give her a bouquet of flowers, and then wait a day and return, Kliodna will still give the gift .

It is also important to note that this class will not be available immediately, and to unlock it you will need to visit the Calling Guild.

Best Skills and Attacks of the Magic Archer

As you may have already guessed, the main difference between this class and a regular archer is that in addition to standard arrows, his arsenal includes magic projectiles and spells.

His most effective and deadly weapons are his AoE attacks that cause explosions and deal massive area damage, such as Stinging Hail and Radiant Sphere, which can neutralize an entire crowd.

I would like to highlight such killer skills as Chain Lightning Column and Ricochet Seeker, which cause a chain reaction of attacks, which makes it possible to not only quickly, but also effectively deal with any type of enemy.

And the aforementioned Martyr’s Arrow, which you received from Cliodna, is one of the most powerful and unbalanced attacks in the game. Yes, your maximum health will be temporarily reduced, but in return you will be able to arrange such a devastating apocalypse that even bosses are not always able to survive .

However, for situations where you want to focus on one target and be careful, there’s a useful secondary skill like Precision Shot, as well as attacks like Flamefang Arrow and Soothing Arrow, which apply debuffs like Burning and Sleep, respectively, allowing you to temporarily disable particularly dangerous enemies.

Overall, the secret to success and proper use of the Magic Archer in combat is to keep your distance, so that you always have time to prepare and use your special skills and ranged attacks. With the ability to keep enemies at a preferred distance with both spells and Pawns that you can command, you will feel like a powerful commander, able to control the battle from the sidelines, but also have enough power to intervene and end it early or decide the outcome of the battle single-handedly in a critical situation.
