Divine Beast Dancing Lion and How to Defeat It in Elden Ring

Here’s what you need to do to find and defeat the Dancing Lion Divine Beast, the first mandatory boss in the Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. Dodge its magic attacks to make the fight more accessible.

The story of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is full of bosses . Among the mandatory bosses we find the Divine Beast Dancing Lion , a boss that appears in Belurat, the settlement of the tower .

How to defeat the Divine Beast Dancing Lion

Before entering the fight, if you spoke to Freya at the Three-Way Cross Grace , you will see her summon mark next to the wall of fog . Other than that, keep in mind that the bug will use both physical attacks and Lightning attacks .

It can also cause frostbite, but it’s the lightning you really need to worry about. It’s also relatively vulnerable to Fire and Hemorrhage , so keep that in mind when choosing weapons and spells.

As for combat, he usually spits out a ranged magic attack right from the start . He only does this when he’s quite far away and you can dodge it by moving to the side or moving even further away, so you shouldn’t have any problems. Don’t worry: you’ll have problems right away, as soon as you close the distance . To start with, he has the annoying habit of jumping with a bite at medium distance , be careful because he reaches much further than he seems. Of course, he has several short-distance combos that really won’t leave you much time to react . They’re just one or two consecutive hits and usually come after a feint or pirouette , so use that as a signal to raise your shield.

One thing he’ll do frequently is rise up on his legs to attack . You need to pay close attention to which attack he’ll do at that moment, because they’ll come in a row and not all of them are avoided equally. Generally, what he’ll do most is spit freezing flames at his feet, in a circle and moving around . The correct way to avoid this is to simply take a step back . But if you see him not standing up but rising up, get as far away as you can . He’ll launch a short and medium range electricity attack at the same time.

This attack is followed by the spin attack from before, but now it will be electric . The problem here is that the beams travel along the ground and have a longer range . The safe way to avoid it is to jump when they reach you.

But we need to get back to the attacks when he gets up on two legs . If you’re really close and you see him get up, but look down, try to dodge to HIS right . He’ll throw a short-medium range grab bite from up to his right to down to his left, if he grabs you he’ll most likely kill you instantly .

Finally, towards the end of the fight, many of his attacks become wind-based : he roars and creates a shockwave that knocks you back, and when he stands on two legs he launches a tornado… if you’ve gotten this far, he’s not really going to be a big threat.

The ideal thing to do, honestly, is to summon Red Mane Freyja and use one of your normal summons (if you can’t summon other players, of course). They’ll act as a decoy and you can use magic or Fire/Bleeding weapons to maximize damage. Keep in mind, though, that she’ll still come after you from time to time and that’s going to hurt a lot.
