Discover the different types of pepper and its benefits

Pepper is a long-standing spice. Many ancient peoples already used it in their preparations, to give an extra flavor to the dishes. But at that time, not much was known about the many health benefits of pepper, as well as the various types of peppers that exist.

1. Chili Pepper

When you hear about pepper, surely the first one that comes to mind is the chili pepper, isn’t it? She’s quite popular, actually. This type of pepper is rich in vitamin A, in proportions equivalent to that of carrots. Chilli is one of the most used peppers in Brazil, with emphasis on Bahian dishes. They are widely used when they are ripe, when they are very spicy and red.

3. Black pepper

Offering several versions, black pepper is often used in the preparation of trivial dishes, as well as in the seasoning of red meat and chicken. One of the oldest spices in the world, black pepper is found in green, white and black types. Studies have already proved that the consumption of black pepper is an important ally in cancer prevention.

In addition to this property, consuming black pepper promotes:

  • Improves the digestive system, preventing gas and constipation;

4. Cayenne pepper

Widely used in Mexican and Thai cuisines, cayenne pepper is considered a holy remedy for various ailments. Rich in iron and calcium, in addition to several vitamins, such as vitamin A, C and the B complex, cayenne pepper has strong action in the following cases:

  • Diuretic effect, with the elimination of toxins;
  • Stimulation of metabolism, favoring the weight loss process;
  • Treatment of coughs, tonsillitis and sore throats;
  • Back pain relief, muscle and rheumatic;
  • Prevention of myocardial infarction, provided you use 1 spoon of powdered cayenne pepper diluted in 1 glass of water.

5. Biquinho Pepper

Rich in beta-carotene, an antioxidant that favors the absorption of vitamins – in addition to sodium, calcium and magnesium – the beak pepper has this name due to its round shape with a small narrow part at the tip. There is the beak red pepper and the yellow pepper, this second one does not have a burning sensation when bitten – so it is widely used in sweet dishes.

Among the main properties of the biquinhos pepper, we highlight:

6. Sweet pepper

8. Cumari pepper

You certainly haven’t heard much about it, but cumari pepper is of Brazilian origin and has high levels of vitamin A, B vitamins, vitamin C and vitamin E. It offers excellent antioxidant properties, responsible for fighting free radicals and preventing aging cell tissue.

In addition to this benefit, the consumption of cumari pepper brings other advantages, such as:

Cautions when consuming peppers

Despite the innumerable health benefits, it is necessary to pay attention to the excessive consumption of peppers, regardless of the type. The ideal, for example, is that the peppers are consumed “in natura”. When consumed in powder, dehydrated, vitamin and nutritional levels are reduced considerably. If you have any health problem, from the simplest, consult your doctor before consuming the peppers – as it is a strong spice and can aggravate any problem – including the development of allergies and digestive irritations.
