Dictionary of terms and phrases in Fortnite Battle Royale

PaVos, the bubble, llamas, skins, mats and many other words that practically form a separate dictionary.Fortnite is a game that can be enjoyed by people of any age. That’s clear. But it’s undeniable that, since its launch, the Epic Games game has become especially popular among young audiences . And little by little, these players have been creating or adapting terms from the game. And things have gotten to such a point that we could practically create a dictionary just with words from this Battle Royale . What the hell! Let’s create it!

All the Fortnite words to improve team play

Below we’ve compiled a list of words, terms, and phrases that Fortnite players use to help them communicate with their teammates more smoothly. Many of these terms are common in other games, but many are completely unique to Fortnite.

Battle Royale

The genre was exploding thanks to PUBG , sure. But it was Epic who popularized it for a more global audience by creating Fortnite Battle Royale. It’s a playable proposition in which several players arrive at a stage with the sole intention of being the last survivor standing . And the idea itself comes from a Japanese movie with the same name. In it, they locked some kids on an island and only one could “pass.”

Launch

In this case, players are talking about the Fortnite launch pad . So, they may use the term to warn other players that someone is flying through the air. Look to the sky ! Or they may just want to let them know that they have a launch pad nearby.

Campers in bushes

Also known as Bush campers, these are players who hide and crouch inside a bush , waiting to kill you without even moving. It’s a good way to avoid being seen at medium or long distance. But the reality is that the term camper, which is used in all shooters , appeared as a kind of criticism of those who practice this behavior that for some is unethical.

Struck

Fortnite players use this term when talking about taking down an opponent without actually killing them . The intention when saying this to a teammate is to get them to stay close.

Soldiers of the storm

Star Wars fans can easily get confused by this term. But in Fortnite it means that opponents are either inside a storm , or coming out of it.

Lagueo

Many of you already know that this word comes from the word lag , in English. It is not exclusive to Fortnite, of course, but it is used a lot and you should keep it in mind if you are starting out in this video game world. Basically, lag is the delay between our computer and the server we are connected to. That is, when we see something, it has actually already happened. And suddenly, we don’t know how, but we have been riddled with bullets.

The Bubble

This term refers to the fact that as time goes on in a match, the map slowly shrinks as a storm engulfs everything . Players often say, “Let’s go to the final Bubble.” This is referring to the location where the focus of the storm is .

Emotes

In the case of Fortnite, Emotes are nothing more than dances that we can perform in the game with our character. The beauty is that they are cosmetic items that can be purchased or obtained through the seasons themselves and options such as the Battle Pass .

Mats

Simply put, if Fortnite people are talking about Mats, they are referring to building materials . In other words, we are talking about wood, brick, and metal .

Loot

Word that comes from loot (English) and means to plunder in Spanish. In Fortnite it is used as in other games, so it means that we collect objects, coins or weapons . Mainly, through the loot left by dead characters. That is why we are talking about looting, because we are stealing from those we have killed first.

Farming

Word that comes from English (from farm ) and means to cultivate in Spanish. However, in Fortnite it is used more to talk about harvesting. In this case, it is similar to looting, but with natural materials .

Stream

You know. We are in the era of streamers, YouTube, Twitch and co. And the word stream refers to the broadcast itself .

Turkeys

In this case, we are talking about nothing more than the game’s virtual currency . The same that can be obtained both by playing and by paying through real money.

Minis

Usually, if a Fortnite player talks about Minis, they are referring to mini shields . However, it is also possible that they are talking about mini weapons.

Within range

In Fortnite , when we say that a character is within range, we don’t mean that we have them well aimed, but rather that the opponent is just one shot away from being eliminated .

Shield of protection

If a Fortnite player shouts that, they have partially or completely destroyed an opponent’s shield .

Architect

Fortnite players call architects those who are dedicated almost exclusively to construction . Or also those who are very good at building.

Kills

As in other shooters , this means death. That is, players use the term to talk about how many deaths they have on the counter . Yes, in a Battle Royale that is not so important, but Fortnite players are proud.

Skins

Literally, it would mean skins , but in reality it is a term (general for the industry) that is used to talk about clothing or costumes . A way to differentiate your character from the rest, but without paying.

Cures

If someone asks about heals, it means they want to know if we have any healing items . Also, in that case they are referring to the ones that replenish the health bar and not the shield.

Taps

In Spanish, the word griefing literally means sorrow or pain. But in Fortnite it is used to talk about the behavior of other players . Or more specifically, those who are a pain in the ass due to their annoying behavior.

Ban

If you’ve ever entered a chat, you’ve probably experienced (or witnessed) a ban. Or, to put it another way, an expulsion . These can be temporary or permanent, and of course, they can also happen in online games. Fortnite is no exception.

Franks

This word can also be misleading , but it is very simple. In reality, players are talking about snipers when they use it.

Noob

It is pronounced nub and is the noob of all time. Someone who still doesn’t master the game and its mechanics because he has just started. Or simply, someone who doesn’t play very well.

Rusher

He is the complete opposite of a campero . That is, someone who never stops moving and who goes full throttle from the first moment . Later he can be a better or worse player, but the way he plays is what counts here.
