WHAT DENTAL INSTRUMENTAL IS NEEDED FOR DETARTRATION?

When you hear “ detartraje ”, the word turns out to be much more alarming than it really is since, after all, we are talking about a “ dental cleaning ”, this is what we all commonly call it.

First of all, what is or what is dental detachment ?

The detartraje is a dental treatment whose main objective is the prevention of all those diseases which have their origin in the accumulation of tartar and limestone deposits on the dental surface. Thus, it is easy to deduce, this preventive treatment consists of the removal of tartar, and calcareous calculi from the surface of the teeth and more specifically, from the supragingival area, that is, in the area above the gum ( between the gum and the tooth). These preventive treatments are, although simple, important: together with a good education regarding oral cleansing, they prevent not only tooth decay but also the bone loss caused by bacteria that, little by little, manage to get under the gums and that,

How the detachment is performed

The dentist, or the dental hygienist (both can perform this treatment) will use an ultrasound machine that consists of a vibration, together with a stream of water, which together are able to detach the tartar. The ultrasound machine is complemented by a series of ultrasonic inserts ; that is, the “tips” that are mounted on the machine and then applied to the teeth. These, which are finished in stainless steels in most cases, transfer the vibration, in its fair measure, to the “layer” of tartar and calcareous stones, removing them from our dentures. Through this dental prophylaxis instrument the first part of the treatment is performed.

The second phase of the treatment is polishing: this stage is generally less distressing for the patient. It is done using a brush or rubber cup prophylaxis attached to the contra-angle. Thanks to the rotational movement and the polishing paste, a smooth tooth surface is obtained, in which bacteria and other microorganisms cannot adhere easily, thus minimizing the risk of suffering the most common ailments. In addition, this step helps eliminate stains on the dental surface, such as tobacco, coffee, tea … Which helps to obtain a whiter smile, even if this is a purely aesthetic appearance.

Finally, it is common to try to improve the patient’s habits regarding dental hygiene since, although these types of treatments are important, the most important thing is that it is the patient himself who maintains his dental health on a daily basis.
