When talking about agriculture, this science covers several five sectors in general including food crops, plantations, forestry, livestock and fisheries. In accordance with the understanding of agriculture, the following is an explanation of each of these agricultural sectors:
- Food Plants
Included in the food crop sector in agriculture, namely rice. Rice is one of the products from the crop sector with the largest yields in Indonesia. Apart from rice, there are also other food crops such as vegetables, sweet potatoes, corn, fruits and so on.
The plantation sector in the agricultural sector is one sector that has experienced consistent growth compared to other sectors. Where the plantation area and the products from the plantations are directly proportional to one another. So that the results of plantations in Indonesia are quite important factors in increasing state income, considering that plantation products in this country include export commodities such as rubber, palm oil, cocoa, tea and coconut.
The product of the forestry sector is wood. The production of wood itself in this country must follow regulations from related parties, in this case the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. Because if wood production is not controlled carelessly, it will have an impact on preserving nature.
This agricultural sector is one of the small scale businesses carried out by the people. The livestock sector in Indonesia is classified into two categories according to the size of their livestock, namely large livestock including cattle, horses, buffalo and cattle, and small livestock including ducks, chickens and other types of poultry. The produce from these farms can be in the form of meat, milk and eggs
Apart from being an Agrarian country, Indonesia is also known as a maritime country with an area of 3.25 million km2 of waters. Fishery is also included in one of the agricultural sectors which plays an important role in the social and economic structure of Indonesia.
Fishery products such as fish are not only used to meet domestic needs but are also used as export commodities. Apart from fish, fishery products also include pearl seaweed shrimp and many others.
Even though agriculture has several separate sectors, hectares of food crops are still the focus of current government attention to increase food yields. Given that even though Indonesia is a rice producing country, until now it still relies on rice imports from other countries.
