Daniel Taboada

Daniel Taboada Espiniella ( Regla , June 8, 1931 ) is a Cuban architect, restorer, university professor and researcher. He recognized for his valuable contributions to the rescue of vernacular architecture. He is an advisor to the Directorate of Patrimonial Architecture and Holder of the Gonzalo de Cárdenas Chair of Vernacular Architecture of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana .

He has actively contributed to the training of new generations and has been awarded, among other awards, the Distinction for National Culture , the National Prize for Architecture (1998), the Annual Research Prize from the Ministry of Culture and the National Prize for Cultural Heritage. for the Work of Life in 2015.

Career path

He graduated as an architect in 1955. He has been working in Conservation and Rehabilitation of Heritage Architecture since 1964.

He is founder of the National Center for Conservation, Restoration and Museology , CENCREM (1980) and professor of the UNESCO Chair for the Integral Conservation of Heritage.

In 1997 he obtained a Master’s degree in Conservation and Rehabilitation of Built Heritage.

The architect Taboada has been the rector of numerous rescue projects and cultural refunctionalization of colonial buildings.

He is an adjunct professor at the Department of History of Architecture at the University of Havana and Permanent Advisor to the Faculty of Architecture at the José Antonio Echeverría Higher Polytechnic Institute (ISPJAE). He is an advisor to the Directorate of Patrimonial Architecture and Holder of the Gonzalo de Cárdenas Chair of Vernacular Architecture of the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana and a member of the National Commission of Monuments and the Provincial Commission of Monuments of the City of Havana , from CICOP, Cuba and ICOMOS.

He has been the general designer of more than 40 heritage works restored in the Cuban capital and outside of it.
