Change the format, size and font style in WhatsApp

For now, WhatsApp does not allow us to use habitual changes in the letter of our chats as we can do in text editors, but it does allow you to format what you write by putting bold, italics, crossing out words or underlining as needed. In addition, there are some applications that will allow you to choose between different fonts that you can not only use to change the font format in WhatsApp but also in other compatible applications where you can enjoy the new look.

From the application settings you can only change the font format to choose the font size among three available options but from the chats itself you can go one step further through symbols that will serve to change the way you write and you will only have to memorize it and use it whenever you want.

Change the size

The first thing you can do is change the size if you are not convinced by the default one. There are three options: small, medium, large. We usually have the medium one activated, but you can bet on the small one if you want to avoid prying eyes or bet on the large size if you do not see the normal font well.

  • Go to your WhatsApp application
  • Access the Settings section of the application
  • Go to the Chats menu in the settings
  • Choose the option “Font size”
  • Choose between Small / Medium / Large

Change the text format

To format the text you can choose between bold, italic, strikethrough, monospace … You will have to “enclose” the text between symbols according to what you want. You can combine the following text formats whenever you want, although it is essential that you follow the correct order of the symbols for it to work in some cases. That is, they will have to be from closer to farther in the same sequence both before the word or phrase and after it.

Write in bold

If you want to write any word or phrase in bold, you will have to write it between asterisks. You can change the format in WhatsApp by putting * before and after the word you want to transform. That is, it will be * text * and in bold, as you can see in the following image. You can do it whenever you need before a specific word or before a sent message. And you will have to repeat it whenever you want to put bold as it will not be saved.

Italicize

You can also change the format of WhatsApp to write in italics. The procedure is exactly identical to the previous one: you will have to enclose the word the phrase between underscores so that it is changed. You can write _text_ and automatically that text will appear in italics. You will always have to repeat it.

Write crossed out words

To cross out the text you want, you will have to write it between small letters. The phrase or word that you want to cross out will have to be enclosed in bullets. Put ~ text ~ in the corresponding WhatsApp chat so that it appears crossed out in your conversation.

Write with monospace font

Monospace is a WhatsApp format that will allow the width to be fixed between words. To do this, you will have to write three accents before and after the word or phrase you want to modify. As in the previous cases, you will have to repeat it whenever you want and need and it will not be saved.

Change the font

You cannot change the font style, although you can change the WhatsApp format. For the first, you will have to resort to a third-party application and Stylish Text is possibly the most complete you can install. It has more than ten million downloads although yes, you can only install it on your Android mobile phone.

The application is free and you can download it from Google Play. Once you find and install it, you will have to accept all the permissions to start working. What it allows us is to choose between dozens of letters that you can use not only to change the letter in WhatsApp but in other compatible applications.

By using Stylish Text you will not only change the WhatsApp format that you see but the other person will also see that the letter has been modified. It has a large number of options and you can always have the app bubble at hand to use it. Many of the fonts are free although the Pro version has a price of about three euros and you can pay it if you want access to more letters, in addition to the free ones.

Once you have installed it, you will see all the available font formats and styles. You can write the text you want to see how it looks or you can choose between categories of texts, numbers or arts. When you have chosen the one you want, you just have to click on the “WhatsApp” icon next to the style and that phrase or word will be sent. Choose which conversation you want to send it to and you will automatically do it.

Floating bubble

Another more comfortable option of Stylish Text to change the letter of WhatsApp is to activate the floating bubble or the floating bar. You can activate it from the settings and as long as you grant accessibility permissions. This will cause that in your WhatsApp conversation, whenever you are going to write a message, you will see a floating bubble with the application icon. You can click on the style that you want to put from the floating bubble and the message you are writing will automatically have this style. Also, you can bookmark some fonts or designs that you want to use regularly in Stylish text.

Remember that, both in the case of bold or italics and in the case of changing the WhatsApp format in Stylish Text, the other person will see the font as you have modified it. It is not a unique change for your mobile but also for the recipient. This way you will get more original conversations. If all you want is to change the color on WhatsApp , you will find other applications that do it for you but always monitor the reliability of these apps that, in many cases, seek to rip you off.

More customization: change the background of each chat

If changing the size, color and format of the letter in WhatsApp is not enough personalization for you, we propose something else: change the background of the chats, but not in a total way, but individually. To do this is only possible on Android. Open the chat whose background you want to change and click on the icon with the three vertical dots located at the top right. Within the menu with the different options choose “Background” and click on it. At the bottom of the screen a small menu will appear with different options to customize. You can choose between a photo from the gallery, no background, use a solid color or access the application’s background gallery.

Select the option you want and choose from the different options available the one that best suits your tastes. Finally click “set” for the changes to take effect. Remember that you can also change the background of all chats evenly on both Android and iOS from the Settings section in Chats and Chat wallpaper.
