The self radiation is a process by which you remove the vehicle from the Public Registry and the Archive of the National Automotive vehicles of Motor Vehicles. Therefore, through the radiation of the car we proceed to put an end to the existence of the car and, as can be understood, this process can be conducted for various reasons.
Think, for example, of the need to demolish the vehicle because it is no longer usable, or the export of the car abroad, or even its destruction due to a fire. These are very different situations which, however, are united by the need to deal with the need to comply with the provisions of the law.

Moreover, it is in the owner’s interest to promptly proceed with the cancellation of the car, in the cases provided for above and in those that may have arisen for other needs . In fact, with the radiation of the vehicle, all obligations relating to the car, such as insurance or car tax, are no longer valid.
But how does car radiation work? And how much is it?
Car radiation costs
Let’s start with the costs . The practice to be able to cancel the car from the PRA does not have particularly high costs, because they are related to:
- ACI emoluments of 13.50 euros;
- stamp duty of 32 euros if using the original certificate of ownership or 48 euros if using a replacement form;
- fees to be paid to DTT for 10.20 euros, but only in the case of deregistration for exporting the vehicle abroad.
These are therefore very low costs, which will allow the owner to be able to promptly regularize his position.

How car radiation works
The car radiation has a partially different operation depending on the motivations and the moment when you decide to proceed.
Let us try to outline:
- car radiation for demolition: it generally occurs when we decide to scrap the car. The operation can only be carried out by an authorized collection center, possibly through a car dealership where we intend to purchase a new vehicle, and which offers to collect the old one. The manager of the collection center must deliver the certificate of destruction within 30 days, and proceed with the presentation to the PRA of the request for cessation of circulation for demolition;
- car deregistration for cancellation of office:those who do not pay the road tax for at least three years in a row risk the official cancellation of their car, as required by art. 96 of the Highway Code. In the event of circulation after cancellation, an administrative sanction from 431 euros to 1,734 euros is applied, and the accessory sanction of confiscation of the vehicle;
- car deregistration for export abroad: in the event that one moves abroad carrying a car registered in Italy, it will be necessary to deregister the cars for definitive export abroad. The vehicle is therefore canceled from the national registers, and can be re-registered in the country of destination. The request must be presented by the owner of the vehicle at the Motorist’s Telematic Desk, with return of the number plates and the registration certificate.
- car radiation for destruction: finally, in the event that the vehicle has been destroyed, for example in the event of a fire or other malicious act, an application must be submitted to the PRA by the owner of the vehicle or by an authorized wrecker. Among the documentation that must be attached, in addition to that which is already provided for a generic car demolition practice, there is also the report of the Police or Fire Brigade, which certifies the complete destruction or the impossibility of recovery of the half. In the event that the certificate, the registration certificate and the license plate have been destroyed, then it will be necessary to produce a relative report, to be attached to the car’s radiation file.
