Can your horse die in Ghost of Tsushima?

Arguably one of Jin Sakai’s best companions in Ghost of Tsushima is his noble steed. His horse is both his means of transportation and his friend, helping the samurai look fearsome, yet elegant. It would be a shame if the horse could die. Luckily for you, we beat the game and put the horse through the wringer, so here’s the ultimate answer to “Can your horse die in Ghost of Tsushima?”

Can my horse die in Ghost of Tsushima?

No, your horse cannot die in Ghost of Tsushima during normal gameplay. You can jump as many high ledges as you like and your horse will keep getting up.

During the fight, your horse will tend to flee the scene, leaving you to face the bad guys. While this doesn’t help you win fights, it does keep your mount healthy and in tip-top shape. Finish the fight and look for your horse to continue the journey (or call it with a whistle).

While it may be alarming to see your horse attempting to jump off a cliff that is too high, causing its legs to bend and Jin being thrown off, the determined steed will quickly recover, allowing you to ride again.

It is also possible to hit your horse with an attack. After playing a different game, I revisited Ghost of Tsushima and pressed “Triangle” to get on the horse. This is in fact the button for a strong attack, which resulted in me hitting my poor Nobu. As the horse panics and runs away, it will turn you back after a while. Alternatively, you can just turn your back on the sullen beast and whistle to provoke a new spawn.

If you’ve already started Ghost of Tsushima or are about to start, you may want to know if the game has Trophy difficulty. All you need to know is in our guide here.
