Shaking hands, hugging or any other kind of greeting – they should all be avoided in times of coronavirus. This disease, unlike other types of viruses, is much more contagious and spreads quickly, putting at risk people with low immunity such as the elderly and patients with respiratory problems. But in addition to physical contact, can saliva also be an element for the transmission and contagion of COVID-19? The Sorrisologia with help of dentist Ana Araujo explains how to protect themselves from the problem and the main symptoms of corona.
CAN THE CORONA VIRUS BE TRANSMITTED THROUGH SALIVA?
In fact, every virus, including COVID-19, can be caught and transmitted through saliva. Although this fluid provides several benefits for oral health , such as facilitating the digestive process, moistening and protecting the oral mucosa and preventing teeth from disease, we must not forget that saliva also harbors millions of bacteria. This whole situation makes the mouth a favorable environment for other microorganisms, such as the new corona virus.
Dr. Ana Araújo highlights a very common and risky habit today: “Without realizing it, we put our hands over our mouths, noses and eyes, which are pathways to the body, causing contamination of the virus”.
