With the RTX 3070 Ti, Nvidia has introduced a faster version of the RTX 3070. But for whom is the graphics card worth it? DLPrivateServer introduces the RTX 3070 Ti in detail and explains what stakeholders should pay attention to.
With the RTX 3070 Ti, Nvidia has introduced a graphics card that is in the mid-price range:
- It is a faster version of the GeForce RTX 3070.
- The GeForce RTX 3080 sits above the RTX 3070 Ti and offers more video memory (10 vs 8 GB VRAM).
- The recommended retail price (RRP) of the RTX 3070 Ti is 619 euros and is between 3070 (519 euros) and 3080 (719 euros). However, it can be assumed that the sale prices will be significantly higher.

But what about the performance of the RTX 3070 Ti and who is it worth buying the graphics card for if available? DLPrivateServer looks at the first tests and explains who graphics cards might be worthwhile for.
Fast WQHD graphics card, but with strong competition
Meanwhile, some independent testers have been able to test Nvidia’s new graphics card. At this point, we would like to present you with some results:
- GameStar describes the RTX 3070 Ti as a powerful graphics card that can bridge the gap between the RTX 3070 and the RX 6800 (via GameStar.de). While the RX 6800 offers slightly better performance and larger memory, gamers get powerful ray tracing cores (tensioner cores) with the RTX 3070 Ti.
- ComputerBase talks about a “mini upgrade” with the RTX 3070 Ti (via ComputerBase.de): The RTX 3070 Ti offers good performance, but offers hardly any noticeable additional performance than the regular RTX 3070 with significantly lower efficiency.
- HardwareLuxx writes in their test that Nvidia has achieved its goal of putting a graphics card closer to the RX 6800, but that the distance to the normal RTX 3070 is still too small (via Hardwareluxx.de). The surcharge from the RTX 3070 to the Ti version is fine, however buyers would have to decide in the end whether they want to pay the surcharge or not.
- Online magazine The Verge sees the biggest competition in particular in the Radeon RX 6800 (via theverge.com). Because the RX 6800 not only offers slightly better performance, it also has a lot more video memory. The RTX 3070 Ti would have done much more memory to stand out from the competition.
How fast is the RTX 3070 Ti? At WQHD, the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti offers 5% higher average FPS than the GeForce RTX 3070. The RTX 3080 is 19% ahead of the RTX 3070 Ti. The RX 6800 is also faster than the RTX 3070 Ti (+ 5%).
In Full HD, the differences between WQHD and Full HD are hardly noticeable because the graphics cards are close together. In 4K, the distance between RTX 3070 Ti and RTX 3070 increases to around 9 percent.

That’s why there are criticisms of video memory: There are criticisms of Nvidia’s decision to install only 8 GB of video memory in the RTX 3070 Ti.
Because, especially with a view to ray tracing, it’s still not clear how future-proof the 8GB video memory is. An RTX 3070 Ti with 16GB of video memory would be much more attractive than the current model, which is why many testers see the RX 6800 with 16GB of memory as a better graphics card, aside from ray tracing.
The Geforce RTX 3080 is also better with its 10 GB video memory because it offers a bit more memory and in most cases this is sufficient without any problem.
According to our colleagues at GameStar, the 8GB will not be a problem with current games, but could look different in the future (via GameStar.de).
GeForce RTX 3070 Ti or Radeon RX 6800: which graphics card is the best choice?
What is the Radeon RX 6800? The Radeon RX 6800 has a suggested retail price of 579 euros and is the direct competitor to the Nvidia RTX 3070. The RTX 3070 Ti is slightly more expensive with a RRP of 599 euros.
As with the two RTX 3070 models, the Radeon RX 6800 is a graphics card that is aimed at gamers who want to play in Full HD with high frame rates or in WQHD.
The Radeon RX 6800 offers 7 to 9 percent more power compared to the RTX 3070 in UHD (via ComputerBase.de). The RTX 3070 Ti is roughly on par with the RX 6800. However, the AMD graphics card is significantly more efficient than the Nvidia card.
Who should buy which graphics card? The Radeon RX 6800 is particularly energy efficient and, with 16GB of video memory, it offers twice the video memory of the RTX 3070 Ti (8GB). The Radeon graphics card is also an option if you want to try 4K and offers more than enough performance for WQHD.
When it comes to ray tracing and DLSS, you can’t beat Nvidia right now. With ray tracing, Nvidia offers better performance, with DLSS AMD does not (yet) have a competitive alternative. But that could change when AMD’s DLSS alternative officially launches in late June.
For whom is the RTX 3070 Ti worth it?
- You want the performance of an RX 6800, but you benefit from ray tracing and most of all DLSS.
- Ray tracing and DLSS are important reasons to buy.
- You want to play in WQHD or benefit from high triple-digit frame rates in Full HD or try 4K once.
For whom is the RTX 3070 Ti not worth it?
- If you want to play in 4K or higher resolutions. Here the RTX 3080 or an RX 6800 XT is more recommended.
- When 8GB of video memory is not enough for you in the long run.
- If you want to do without high ray tracing performance and sophisticated DLSS.
- If you want to change from a GTX 1070 or GTX 970 and you may need a new power supply. Then the RTX 3070 is the best option with similar performance and better efficiency.
How available is the RTX 3070 Ti? We can’t promise you if you can find an RTX 3070 Ti in stores and buy it at a reasonably fair price.
Sale of the RTX 3070 Ti begins on June 10 at 3 p.m. RTX 3080 Ti models cost almost double the RRP at first, so expect RTX 3070 Ti prices starting at 999 euros and up. Custom models – that is, graphics cards from onboard manufacturers – often cost more than Founders models.
At least Nvidia had stated that they wanted to make mining a lot more difficult with RTX graphics cards. That’s at least a small ray of hope in the hardware market.
