In that list, unfortunately, there are also many programs that come out very badly, where not only do they not obtain the recommended seal, but it is also shown that their protection leaves much to be desired. Now, the new list updated to December 2020 shows us seven antiviruses that we should avoid.
During the month of November and December 2020, AV-Test has analyzed 21 of the most used antivirus worldwide. As always, they group the benefits of each one into three categories: level of protection, performance and usability. More and more antivirus programs are obtaining the highest scores in all categories, as well as the recommended seal. However, there are always exceptions.

Microsoft Defender is still one of the best antivirus
Among the list of the best antivirus, we find 14. All of them get a 6 in protection, which is after all the most important category. Only four of them score 5.5 in performance (Avast, AVG, Kaspersky and Northguard), while in usability only two drop to 5 (Ahnlab and Bitdefender). As we can see, antivirus such as ESET have improved to obtain six points in protection, and Microsoft Defender also maintains a score of 6 in all categories, making much competition to other developers of security solutions. In fact, so much so that any of the following seven antivirus is worse than the one that comes by default with Windows 10, showing that, indeed, by installing a third-party antivirus we can have worse protection than if we did not install any.

Of them, the two worst in terms of protection are Malwarebytes Premium 4.2 and eScan Internet Security Suite, which only get 4.5 out of 6. In the case of Malwarebytes Premium 4.2, we have only protected against 94.9% of the attacks that exploited zero-day vulnerabilities, the most dangerous.
In usability, however, only one low of the 5 points: PC Matic, with a 3.5 mark. This category measures the impact of the program on the rest of the computer, including false detections or false alerts of various elements in the system, for example causing the antivirus to prevent the installation of a program . Thus, in total, PC Matic blocked 11 actions made by legitimate software, and had three false positives. By comparison, Windows Defender blocked 100% of threats, plus it didn’t have a single false positive.
