Answers to Difficult Questions (1985 book)

Answers to difficult questions . This book deals extensively with the vital issues that establish the boundary between faith and unbelief and is willing to put concrete evidence through the tests of reality. Again, “the evidence is demanding a verdict” and readers will almost inevitably find themselves casting such a verdict in favor of Jesus Christ .

Plot

It is with great satisfaction to recommend to both Christian and non-Christian truth seekers the book Answers to Tough Questions by Josh McDowell and Don Stewart . The explanation of many of the sincere questions that non-believers ask about Christianity is the main purpose of this book that will strengthen the faith of the believer and give them answers to the questions of the non-believer . Sometimes one must declare oneself ignorant of certain questions, but thanks to archeology and other sciences, many of the questions and accusations about Christianity that could not be answered thirty years ago can now be answered with great certainty.

Structure

The volume is divided into X sections dealing with the topics listed below:

Section I

  • The bible

– What makes the Bible so special?
– Has the New Testament not changed due to the many times it has been copied throughout its history?
– How can anyone believe the New Testament account of the life of Jesus, if it was written long after his death?
– Why do some people say that Mark was the first gospel to be written?
– What is the Q?
– There are many different interpretations of the Bible, why should I believe yours?
– How can you believe in a Bible that is full of contradictions?
– Most people say that Moses did not write the first 5 books of the Bible. What do you say?
– How could Moses have written Deuteronomy , if it contains the account of his death?
– Does archaeological evidence prove the truth of the Bible? How are archaeological discoveries related to events in Scripture?
– How are the Dead Sea scrolls related to biblical criticism?
– How many Isaias were there?
– I have heard them say that the existence of the Jewish people today is objective evidence that the Bible is true. Why?
– Why do I always hear Christians turn to fulfilled prophecies to test the inspiration of the Bible?
– What are the Apocrypha? Why are these books not found in Protestant Bibles?

Section II

  • Jesus Christ

– Did Jesus say that He was God ? Even though He said it, why should I believe it?
– A friend told me that Jesus never existed. How do you respond to something like that?
– Do not the Gospels give contradictory information as to the time when Christ was crucified?
– How do we know that Jesus rose from the dead?
– How could Jesus have remained in the tomb 3 days and 3 nights, if He was crucified on Friday and resurrected on Sunday?
– How do you explain the contradictions in the account of the resurrection?
– Do you believe that Jesus was born of a virgin?
– Are there legitimate objections to the virgin birth that make it amazing for us today?
– Are not the genealogies of Jesus given in Matthew and Luke contradictory ?

Section III

  • God

– Why is Jesus the only way to reach God?
– How do you know that God exists?
“Where did God come from? What was He doing before He created the universe?”
– Isn’t the God of the Old Testament a God of hatred, while the God of the New Testament is a God of love?
– What is the Trinity ? Do Christians worship three gods?

– Why are biblical miracles different from those in other miraculous stories?
– Were biblical miracles magic tricks that fooled simple primitive people?
– How can miracles be possible?

Section V

– How do you explain the inaccuracy that Matthew 27: 5 says that Judas hanged himself and Acts 1:18 says ¨ falling headlong, he burst in half ¨?
– Does Matthew make a mistake when he attributes to Jeremiah a prophecy that was actually given by Zacharias ?

– Do you really believe the story of Jonah and the whale?
– Where did Cain’s wife come from?
