How does it work
Amazon Luna is a cloud platform that allows you to play your favorite titles by signing up for a subscription. This service can be used on different types of devices:
- PC (Windows 10 with DirectX 11 support)
- Mac (OSX 10.13+)
- Fire TV Stick (2nd Gen, Ultra and 2nd Gen TV Cube)
- Chrome browser (version 83+) on PC and Mac
- Safari browser (iOS 14) for iPhone and iPad
As can be seen from that list, support for Android devices is currently lacking . This is very similar to cloud gaming services such as Google Stadia , PlayStation NOW, and Microsoft XCloud , although there is a substantial economic difference. In fact, Amazon Luna allows you to subscribe to different channels that offer different catalogs, rather than having a single large catalog.
Controller
In order to interact with Amazon Luna you can use the controller Xbox One , the DualShock 4 of PS4 , mouse and keyboard , or the special controller Official Luna .
This joypad is equipped with the following features:
- direct connection with Amazon servers when playing with Luna;
- 17-30 millisecond latency reduction compared to using other controllers;
- ability to switch between screens quickly;
- support for Alexa voice commands to access games faster;
This joystick is available for purchase in the US for $ 49.99 .
Connection requirements
The connection requirements to use Amazon Luna without problems are:
- Minimum connection speed : 10 Mbps
- Recommended speed for maximum quality : 35 Mbps
Amazon explained that for an hour of 1080p gameplay, the consumption is around 10GB . As for wifi connections, Luna will support both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz (recommended for a better experience).
Exit date
Amazon Luna is currently available in the United States for a small group of users who have received a special invitation from Amazon itself. This is available from October only in the United States , while the arrival in the rest of the world (including Italy) has not yet been announced.
Prices
This game streaming platform will allow you to subscribe to a series of channels that will offer different game lists, prices and options depending on which one you choose. The channels currently announced are two: Luna + and Ubisoft . The price of Luna + will initially be $ 5.99 / month , while for the Ubisoft channel there is still no information about it. The Luna + channel will offer the following benefits:
- ever-expanding game library (100 games already confirmed);
- up to 1080p / 60fps (4K coming soon);
- usable on two screens simultaneously;
Instead, the offer made available by the Ubisoft channel will be the following:
- access to Ultimate Editions with DLC for a selected list of games (4 already confirmed)
- up to 1080p / 60fps (4K coming soon)
- usable on one device at the same time
