There was a time when the zombie theme was a bit overused in video games, but there was also a time when it was a massive success . And Rockstar knew how to take advantage of that popularity to create one of the coolest independent expansions we’ve ever seen: Undead Nightmare , for Red Dead Redemption . The DLC is included in the new PS4 and Switch versions . And in this article we will tell you about all the types of zombies you will find . Let’s get down to business!
Zombies in Undead Nightmare
As you may know if you’ve ever played this expansion, zombies are the main enemies of Undead Nightmare. It’s a strange disease that has caused a large part of the game’s population to become infected . And the worst thing is that it’s very contagious, since people become infected if they’re bitten by one. And that’s without forgetting that they can rise from the graves , without the need for contagion.
In any case, if we defeat them we can pick up their parts on the ground . And as surreal as it may seem, those tongues, ribs or eyes will be used to get ammunition for the Blunderbuss . Without a doubt, the coolest weapon in Undead Nightmare.
Of course, you shouldn’t trust any of them, as they are very aggressive and also tend to act in very large groups, which can be a problem. The positive part is that we can kill them in many ways. In fact, it is even possible to throw them into the water to drown. In addition, it is not always necessary to kill them with headshots . Although some of the types we will find are more resistant to body shots.
All types of zombies in Undead Nightmare
Speaking of the different zombies that we will find , it should be noted that we have a total of four very different and common species: the common Zombie, the Bolter, the Bruiser and the Retchers. And then, we also have some extras, such as the zombies of the catacombs (which are like mummies), which only appear in one mission, or of course the different important characters that have been converted . Below we detail all the species.
The common zombie and how to kill them
As their name suggests, these are the most common Undead Nightmare enemies . They run slower than us and are less agile, but they are very aggressive. Luckily, they are not too intelligent. Something that does not prevent them from going in large groups to be more dangerous. Something that we can more or less solve with the Blunderbuss, but which can get out of hand if these hordes are combined with other types of zombies.
On the other hand, you should know that there are also two types of common zombies: those that have just been converted and run towards us like crazy and those that were already dead, which do not run but are more resistant. And be careful, the latter can catch us , with the possibility of ending up causing our death if we are low on health. Luckily, if not, they will let us get away from them with our weapons .
To eliminate them for good, simply aim for their heads. DeadEye will come in handy on many occasions. However, if you’re fighting massive hordes, it’s best to try to split them up into smaller groups . Sometimes, shooting their legs will make them fall and give you a break to look behind you.
The Bolter Zombie and How to Kill Them
This species, also known as the “Fierce”, is the fastest of all . Fortunately, that also means they are weaker. Be careful though, as they tend to be very thin and not easy targets. Sometimes they even crawl along the ground on all fours, making aiming more difficult. Bolters can also grapple with John .
To kill them, it’s best to use the Henry Repeater on any part of their body. We also highly recommend that you do so before they start crawling . If you can’t manage to do so, when they’re on the ground, opt for shooting their limbs.
The Bruiser Zombie and How to Kill Them
Also known as “Bruisers”, Bruisers are very dangerous . They are an easier target, due to their obesity, but they have tremendous strength . Also, don’t think that they are slow, because when they decide to attack, they will take a run . Luckily for us, they are the least intelligent species of zombie. For this reason, sometimes they stay completely still, looking around . Keep in mind that there are different types of the same zombie, some being more powerful.
In this case, to defeat them, it is essential to shoot at the head. For this reason, you will need to have the Dead Eye well charged. If you are fast , you can defeat them even before they get a running start to attack . If you do not get there in time, it is best to dodge and wait for them to look away.
The Retcher Zombie in Undead Nightmare and how to kill them
Finally, we have the “Repulsors” who are one of the most balanced types . They are characterized by spitting a radioactive fluid and can do a lot of damage with that attack. In addition, they are even thinner than the Bolters and always attack in large groups . They are also fast and when they die they are still a danger since they explode with that radioactive liquid splashing everything.
However, they do occasionally stop to rest , which makes them vulnerable for a few moments. But don’t be overconfident; if they catch you, the struggle can be even more terrible. In fact, they can even kill you even if you are in optimal health . You will frequently find this species in the areas of Gaptooth Ridge and Ten Crowns .
To defeat them easily, it’s best to keep your distance , even if you’re using DeadEye. Therefore, it’s best to use the rifle . Oh, and if you can be quick and stop them from spitting, all the better.
Catacomb Zombies in Undead Nightmare and How to Kill Them
Finally, as we mentioned before, we have these zombies from the catacombs, which look more like mummies and only appear in one mission: “A civilized man” . This is a type of zombie that represents that it has been transformed for a long time. In any case, they act in groups and it is difficult to kill them because of the darkness of the place. Although their bright red eyes give them away. Use the DeadEye, which will light up your way a bit .
