This Friday, November 18, Pokémon Scarlet and Purple , the most recent installments of the Pokémon saga , will go on sale . They will introduce us to Paldea , a new region inspired by Spain that will kick off the 9th Generation and introduce new regional forms, unknown Pokémon and, as Game Freak itself pointed out , the first open-world RPG in the history of the franchise.

However, as with all main installments of the series, there are slight differences between editions that make the balance of players tip in one direction or the other. Therefore, today we are going to talk about all the aspects in which Pokémon Scarlet and Purple differ, two installments that will have exclusive Legendaries , different Academies and more content with few points in common.

The main differences between Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple

Pokémon exclusive to each edition

As usual, the main difference between editions is the list of exclusive creatures that will appear in each edition. This option has been present in the franchise since its beginnings on Game Boy, when Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue (Pokémon Green in Japan) featured pocket monsters that could only be captured in one of the two editions.

So, this is the list of Pokémon exclusive to each edition:

Pokémon Scarlet

  • Larvitar (Type: Rock/Ground)
  • Pupitar (Type: Rock/Ground)
  • Tyranitar (Type: Rock/Dark)
  • Stonejourner (Type: Rock)
  • Armarouge (Type: Fire/Psychic)
  • Koraidon (Type: ?)

Pokemon Purple

  • Bagon (Type: Dragon)
  • Shelgon (Type: Dragon)
  • Salamence (Type: Dragon/Flying)
  • Ice (Type: Ice)
  • Ceruledge (Type: Fire/Ghost)
  • Miraidon (Type: ?)

Legendaries exclusive to each edition

Koraidon and Miraidon are, in addition to the protagonists of the covers of Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple respectively, the exclusive Legendaries of each edition. The first, as we told you in its presentation , owes its name to the union between “Korai” (“ancient” in Japanese) and “Ride” (“ride” in English); the second, on the other hand, has the origin of its name in “Mirai” (“future” in Japanese) and “Ride” (“ride” in English). In addition, both end with the particle “don”, a clear allusion to dinosaurs .

Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple Professors

One of the peculiarities of the new Pokémon releases is that each edition will have an exclusive Pokémon Professor . In Scarlet, there will be Professor Albora , a character whose name and clothing inevitably remind us of times past; in Purple, her counterpart, players will encounter Professor Turo , a Pokémon researcher more closely related to the future and technology.

The Orange Academy and the Grape Academy

Although Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Purple essentially have the same plot and objectives, there are subtle differences in the way these elements are presented depending on the edition. Thus, in Pokémon Scarlet, players will be part of the Orange Academy , a place that disappears in Pokémon Purple to make way for the Grape Academy .

The differences between these institutions are related to their design and the uniform of the characters. Thus, both the director Clavel (the head of the institution) and the protagonists of the game, avatars that the player can modify and personalize, will modify their clothing according to the edition chosen.

The Scarlet Book and the Purple Book

One of the latest previews of Pokémon Scarlet and Purple left us another of the differences between editions: two very powerful creatures . Related to Donphan , the Ground-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II, come to both installments the ones known as Longfang and Ferrodada . At the moment, not many details are known beyond their presence in the Scarlet Book and Purple Book , two exclusive elements of each edition that will play an important role in them.

Pokémon Scarlet and Purple will arrive in all corners of the world on November 18th . Thus, Nintendo Switch players will be able to exclusively enjoy one of the most anticipated releases of the end of 2022. In it, in addition to presenting Paldea, the region inspired by Spain, fans of the saga will welcome the exciting 9th Generation .
