All Overwatch 2 Technical Problem Solving

Server error, problems connecting to friends, crashes, low FPS and more

The launch of Overwatch 2 was n’t exactly smooth . The first players were met by queues of tens of thousands of people and frequent crashes. However, many major online games experience similar problems on launch day. To date, most of the technical problems on the side of the developers have already been resolved and there are mostly problems on the side of the users.

In this article, we’ve collected common Overwatch 2 issues and provided proven solutions for them.

What kind of computer is needed for Overwatch 2 (system requirements)

The game can load up to 12 processor threads. Therefore, a processor not lower than the modern Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5 is recommended. In addition, for a stable 60 FPS at maximum settings at 1080p, a GeForce GTX 1060 or Radeon RX 570 video card is required.

As for the official system requirements, they are only for 1080p (1920×1080) resolution. We’ve reviewed independent benchmarks of the game and added recommendations for 2K (2560×1440) and 4K (3840×2160) play.

Official minimum system requirements (720p @ 60 FPS, low preset):

  • Operating system:Windows 10 (64-bit only!).
  • Processor:Intel Core i3 / AMD Phenom X3 8650.
  • Video card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 600 Series / AMD Radeon HD 7000 Series.
  • RAM:8 gigabytes.

Official recommended system requirements (1080p @ 60 FPS, high preset):

  • Operating system:Windows 10 x64.
  • Processor:Intel Core i7 / AMD Ryzen 5.
  • Video card:NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060.
  • RAM:16 gigabytes.

Overwatch 2 won’t launch on Windows 7

The game is not designed to run on Microsoft operating systems older than Windows 10.

If you have Windows 10 , and the game still does not start, then try installing all the latest updates.

Unable to communicate with Blizzard servers / “Unexpected server error” error / Overwatch 2 cannot connect to servers / large queues

This happens if the game servers are overloaded, or technical work is underway. Just try again after a while (sometimes the next day).

You can check the server status here .

Can’t add friend to match / “Player is in a different version of Overwatch” error

  1. Both players need to update the game to the latest version.
  2. If this does not help, you can remove the player from friends and add again.
  3. Also, similar problems can occur if you play on different platforms.

Game crashes without error

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. If the first did not help, then check the integrity of the game files:
  3. launch net;
  4. go to the “All games” section at the top left;
  5. open the page with the game Overwatch 2;
  6. click on the gear sign to the right of the blue “Play” button in the lower left corner;
  7. click “Scan and restore”, and then “Start scan” in the window that appears;

Reinstall or update NVIDIA drivers. It is advisable to do a clean install to reset unsuccessful settings.

Out of memory error in Overwatch 2

Your PC is running out of RAM. The best solution is to increase the amount of RAM to at least 8 gigabytes. Increasing the swap file probably won’t help. Also, be sure to close your browser before launching any game. Especially if it has a large number of open tabs.

The resolution does not change in the game / the image goes beyond the screen

This problem can occur if screen scaling is enabled in Windows. You can compensate for this in the following way:

  1. Find the exefile in the game folder.
  2. Go to properties and go to the “Compatibility” tab.
  3. Click the “Change high DPI settings” button.
  4. In the “Override scaling mode…” option, select “Application”.

Game freezes / DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG error / black screen

Perhaps the problem is overheating of the video card:

  1. Check if the fans of her cooling system are blocked by adjacent wires.
  2. If everything is in order with the first one, then try to reset the overclocking: go to the MSI Afterburnerapplication and click the Reset button (if such a program is not installed, then the video card most likely did not overclock).
