What is this
All active users of group chats in messengers know about the corresponding access rights – some group members can add new participants, some can only write messages.
This is just an example illustrating the definition that will be discussed further. Discord developers have created a unique system of granting access rights – role statuses were created precisely to delimit the hierarchy! A little later we will talk in detail about how to add a role in Discord, but for now we will note the following parameters:
- You can create a hierarchy yourself – you grant rights to certain server members who are on your friends list;

Now that we’ve covered the basics, you understand what the system is. It’s time to talk about how to create roles in Discord and grant certain powers to users on your friends list! Let’s get started?
Creation
Let’s make it clear right away – before adding a role to Discord, you need to create your own server. Let’s briefly go through this part of the instructions, as these are the basics of using the messenger:
- Click on the plus button on the left panel of the screen;
- Select the item “Create/set up server”;
- Enter a name and select the region of operation;
- Click on the “Voice Channels”icon on the left to set up the desired channels;
- Click on the “Invite friends”icon and wait for the link to be automatically generated;
- Copy the value and reset it for users who can navigate and join the channel.
Now we can talk about how to add a role in Discord on the server – we have everything we need.
- Find the server name on the left panel and click on the settings icon;
- In the list, select the section with the corresponding name – you can proceed to editing;
- Click on the small plus icon to create a new status;
- On the right, in the special window, enter the name of the role for Discord;
- Just below you can choose a color from the presented palette or upload a custom shade;
- Enable/disable the corresponding settings – show members separately and allow others to mention this status.
Stop here – you’ve already figured out how to make a multi-colored role in Discord and give it a unique name. Come up with a really cool name! Next, we have a serious step ahead – choosing the basic rights. We’ll list the available options, you just need to turn on/off the toggle switch opposite the line:
- Administrator – the highest rights, allowing you to bypass others (but does not allow you to delete the server);
- View audit log;
- Management – change the name of the server or its region;
- Channel management – the ability to create, edit or delete them;
- Ability to kick out participants;
- Ability to ban people;
- Create invitations;
- Change of nickname;
- Emoji management;
- Editing, creating and deleting webhooks;
- Reading text and listening to voice channels.
We’ve looked at the main block, let’s move on – before giving a role in Discord, you need to configure many parameters:
- Sending messages;
- Sending text-to-speech messages;
- Deleting and pinning messages from other participants;
- Embedding links;
- Sending files;
- Reading the history of correspondence;
- Mention all;
- Using external emoji;
- Adding new reactions.
Finally, the last block of rights settings concerns only voice channels:
- Connection;
- Ability to speak;
- Mute participants;
- Using voice activation mode;
- Priority mode (more chances to be heard);
- Live broadcast (streaming);
- Moving users.
Done, you can create other statuses in the same way – they will all appear in the list on the left, marked with different colors. Drag them to make one option higher than another in the hierarchy (and vice versa). We already know how to create a role in Discord, it’s time to give it to one of the participants.
Addition
It’s time to grant users certain powers! To do this, do the following:
- Open the server settings menu and find the “Members”item ;
- Find the person you are interested in in the list and click on the plus sign next to him;
- A list of the options you have created will appear – select the one you need.
