The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is a Russian-made aircraft, it is a regional aircraft dedicated to the transport of passengers, with capacity between 68 and 103 seats. It flew for the first time in 2008 and entered service in 2011, while the damaged unit was manufactured in 2017

Its length is 29.94 meters, its height is 10.28 meters and it has a wingspan of almost 27.80 meters. The maximum range of this model is 3048 kilometers, and its maximum speed is 860 kilometers per hour.

The aircraft carried the registration RA-89098 and the manufacturer’s serial number 95135.

Accident

The aircraft took off on 5 of maypole of 2019 at 18:02 local time (15:04 UTC) from Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow (Russia) Airport bound for Murmansk in Russia, was struck by lightning that left him its primary communication system, communication was reestablished through an emergency frequency but contact was cut off and it finally stopped working.

The incident forced the captain to request an emergency landing, several minutes later the plane circled over Moscow before beginning the descent, in an attempt to waste fuel or waiting for permission to land, until it attempted to land, in a first attempt failed and he tried to do it again, the landing gear collapsed and the plane fell on the runway violently, at which point it caught fire.

The procedure for an emergency landing states that an airplane must empty its fuel tanks before attempting descent, since the extra weight makes it difficult to maneuver and the flammable material increases the chances of a fire.
