Being kind to your partner, especially when married, is certainly a good thing. However, if it reaches the “too nice” level, it can backfire.
Partners may become preoccupied with exploiting and profiting from the kindness offered, while they continue to suffer losses and are far from happy. This lack of happiness will slowly damage the relationship.
According to Expert Editor, there are at least eight signs that someone is being “too nice” to their partner. If you feel like you’re experiencing any of the signs outlined below, take action immediately to find the best solution.
1. You are always the one giving
In a healthy relationship, the ideal is to give and receive. Think about it: do you always give compliments but never receive them? Do you always initiate dates and make significant sacrifices to ensure the relationship lasts? If this situation persists, the person in the giving position will feel unappreciated. A negative feeling that will lead to unhappiness.
2. Your boundaries are gray or blurry
Differentiate between being someone who readily compromises and someone whose rights and desires are constantly violated. Even to the point of sacrificing personal comfort and slowly eroding happiness, this is a warning sign. Gradually, your life will become like a mere accessory—a sufferer.
3. You are too afraid to say “no”
When you feel like you’re always saying “yes” to everything in a relationship, without the courage to say “no,” it’s a sign of a one-sided relationship. If this “yes” habit persists for a long time, you’re unknowingly missing out and no longer getting what you truly desire.
4. You feel guilty about your needs.
As individuals, everyone naturally has personal needs. These include health needs, entertainment needs, vacation or recreation needs, and so on. When such desires arise, you feel guilty. Instead of expressing the need you’re trying to fulfill, you immediately put off the idea.
5. You always apologize
How many times a day do you say sorry, even though you haven’t done anything significant wrong? Apologies often slip out of your mouth simply to prevent conflict or further problems with your partner. You think this act of kindness will bring harmony to your marriage. In reality, it only gradually erodes your self-confidence, leading to unhappiness.
6. Your happiness is number two
The principle of “it’s okay to be unhappy as long as he’s happy” is clearly inappropriate in a relationship. Happiness that is only one sided won’t compensate for the other’s unhappiness. Ideally, happiness should be shared, or both parties should be happy.
7. You lose your identity
If lately you’ve been frequently remembering and missing your former self, before marriage, before you were even with your partner, it could be a sign that you’ve lost your identity. Perhaps if the changes are for the better or more fulfilling, they can still bring happiness. However, if the loss of identity is accompanied by feelings of sadness, you need to immediately improve your behavior.
8. Rarely gets recognition
Has your partner ever acknowledged all the good things you have done and thanked you sincerely? If you still do this regularly as a form of appreciation from your partner for all your goodness, perhaps you won’t regret being “too good.”
However, if in reality your partner never does it, it is not impossible that after a while you will feel tired and give up.
