According to statistics, only 7-10% of people are predisposed to oncology due to heredity. No relatives with cancer? It’s too early to relax: the risk of the disease is increased even by seemingly harmless habits. Not to mention smoking and addiction to alcohol…
Love for sausages
The World Health Organization has included processed meat products in the list of category 1 carcinogens, meaning products that significantly increase the risk of developing cancer. According to the agency, eating just 50 grams of sausage products per day increases the risk of developing bowel cancer by 18%.
Chronic loneliness
Studies have shown that lonely people react differently to stress, triggering inflammatory processes. According to data published in the journal Antioxidants and Redox Signaling, they “may represent a key mechanism in the development of chronic diseases such as atherosclerosis, cancer, and neurodegeneration.” In addition, Finnish researchers have established a link between loneliness and the likelihood of cancer in middle-aged men.
Insufficient sleep
According to research, lack of sleep can increase the risk of cancer and heart disease. Fortunately, only indirectly. Remember: you don’t have to sleep the standard eight hours a day if seven is enough for you. But you can’t get a full night’s sleep in four hours. You can’t fool your health!
Regular beach holidays
It’s not so much the beaches as the sun. When there is no alternative to the beach, vacationers have no choice but to lie around and sunbathe all day. It is no secret that ultraviolet radiation provokes skin cancer. Trying to accumulate vitamin D will not justify being under the scorching rays: the body has enough of what gets on the hands and face during walks. Sunscreen will help protect the skin – at least SPF 30. Be sure to hide in the shade at lunchtime: the soft evening sun will bring just as much pleasure, and is much less harmful! By the way, solariums, contrary to popular myth, are not safer than the sun.
Watching TV
Of course, you can watch your favorite TV series in the gym, but we all know perfectly well: the TV’s best friend is the couch! One show follows another, a movie starts after the series, and we don’t even notice how evenings and weekends fly by in a lying position. A 2019 study showed that people who spend more than two hours a day sitting in front of the TV have a 70% higher risk of developing bowel cancer at a young age. If you don’t have the energy to exercise, walk! Regular walks certainly won’t do any harm, and you yourself won’t notice how your health changes for the better.
Binge eating
Constant overeating inevitably leads to excess weight gain. And obesity, in turn, increases the likelihood of developing 13 types of cancer at once, including stomach, pancreatic, breast, uterine, colon and rectal cancer. So in terms of risks, overeating is hardly better than smoking, especially if the diet is unhealthy.
Uncontrolled intake of dietary supplements
A tablet for each organ, multivitamins, microelements, superfood concentrates… and the body imperceptibly turns into a chemical laboratory for studying the compatibility of dubious drugs that even their manufacturers do not call medicine. According to experts from the USA, where the love for supplements is off the charts, taking beta-carotene increases the risk of lung cancer in smokers, as well as the risk of death from heart disease and stroke. Not to mention random combinations of dietary supplements, about which there is no data.
