Breakfast directly affects your well-being during the most productive hours of the day, so you need to approach your morning diet wisely. The following 6 dishes are not the best choice for the first meal.
Flakes
If you’ve been paying attention to everything the manufacturers write on the packaging of cereals and breakfast balls, you might have noticed a recommendation to eat an apple for a full meal. The problem is that they are usually low in fiber and high in carbohydrates, and if you pour juice over them, even more so. As a result, you won’t be able to feel full for long, and you’ll be hungry long before lunch.
Yogurt
Fruit yogurt may seem like a light and healthy breakfast, especially if you’re on a diet. But first, pay attention to the ingredients – the cheapest yogurts have little in common with the fermented milk product, but even natural options can contain a lot of sugar. A healthy alternative would be low-fat Greek yogurt, which contains a lot of protein.
Granola
Another trendy product for a “light” breakfast, which is guilty of high carbohydrate content, is granola. It is important not to be deceived by the image of a healthy breakfast and look only at the nutritional value table on the package. Granola usually has a minimum of protein and a lot of carbohydrates – a sharp increase in blood sugar levels with all the ensuing consequences cannot be avoided. It is better to add fresh nuts to the diet, without any syrup or candied fruits.
Pancakes
Pancakes made from white flour contain empty carbohydrates on their own, and if you pour syrup on them or eat them with jam, you no longer get a nutritious dish, but a high-calorie dessert. To make the dish healthier and more suitable for breakfast, you can use flour mixtures from buckwheat or bran, and use Greek yogurt and berries or, for example, salmon and greens as a “filler”.
Smoothie
Even if you make a smoothie yourself from fresh fruit, this drink can hardly be considered a full breakfast. Even on a diet, it is preferable not to starve yourself, and a smoothie will give you a feeling of satiety only for a very short period. If you do not like whole fruits, a smoothie can still be part of a healthy breakfast if you take care to ensure that your morning diet includes enough protein and healthy fats.
Bakery
We understand that the temptation to eat a stereotypical croissant for breakfast, washing it down with aromatic coffee, is very great! At the same time, it is unlikely that you will do without snacks until lunch. If you have fundamentally chosen this format for the start of the day, stock up on nuts, yogurt and vegetables in advance. In small quantities, baked goods can become part of breakfast, but not replace it.
