5 Celebrities Who Committed Stupid Crimes

Robert Downey Jr.

In the second half of the 1990s, Robert Downey Jr. was already known for his forays into vice. He was repeatedly caught drunk driving, he missed filming, and he got into a series of high-profile scandals due to his drug addiction. The latter circumstance became a key factor in the story that happened to him in July 1996 in Malibu. Returning late at night from a party, Downey wandered into the house of Bill and Lisa Curtis. The couple’s house was located not far from the actor’s home and had the same wooden ramp at the entrance to the garage.

The actor entered through an open door and turned into the first bedroom he came to – which, as luck would have it, was a nursery. There, he laid his pants neatly on a chair, then wrapped himself in sheets and fell asleep. He was discovered by the homeowner’s wife a few hours later. According to her, as the police led the sleepy and pale Downey out, he made funny faces at the homeowners’ young daughter. The Curtises were generous and did not press trespassing charges, but the incident deepened Downey’s legal troubles. He was soon jailed for 18 months for possession of a controlled substance.

Ozzy Osbourne

The former Black Sabbath frontman has done a lot of things in his rock career that no other representative of the genre has been able to surpass to this day: biting off the heads of bats, throwing raw meat at fans, and defecating on the floor of a hotel room. In short, the incident that took place in February 1982 is very much in the spirit of Ozzy.

It happened on tour in San Antonio, Texas. While the musician was sleeping in his room after another party, his manager and future wife Sharon hid all his clothes so that after waking up he could not go out and buy alcohol again. But the lack of pants did not stop Ozzy: after waking up, he pulled on Sharon’s dress and went in search of the nearest bar.

What happened next, history is silent, it is only known that the police caught him defecating on the local cenotaph – a monument to soldiers who died in the battle for Texas independence. The result: local Black Sabbath fans were left without concerts for 10 years, because Ozzy was banned from entering the city.

Emmy Winehouse

In December 2009, the legendary Amy Winehouse managed to break the law while watching a Christmas show, although it would seem that a more innocent activity could not be imagined.

It was a performance of Cinderella starring the famous actor Mickey Rooney. Amy, as befits a celebrity, sat in the front rows. At the same time, the singer loudly commented on what was happening on stage. Seeing one character stealthily approaching another, Winehouse screamed: “He’s [damn] behind you!” and called Cinderella’s stepsisters bitches.

When the theater manager asked her to move further away so as not to disturb the actors, Amy flatly refused and asked him to bring her another, sixth, vodka and cola of the evening. And when the manager refused to fulfill her wish, she grabbed him by the hair and rained blows on him. The staff had to call the police; at the station, the singer pleaded guilty.

Justin Bieber

For a pop star, the Canadian singer led a pretty rock-n-roll lifestyle: at 19, he was caught drunk driving, and with an expired license. On January 23, 2014, Justin got into a street race with singer Khalil. Bieber was driving a Lamborghini, and his opponent was driving a red Ferrari. According to the Miami Herald, the musician’s friends blocked traffic on one of the streets of Los Angeles with their cars, thus freeing the track for racing. Bieber spent 10 hours in police custody and was released on $2,500 bail.

By the way, a week before these events, Bieber was accused of throwing eggs at his neighbors’ house.

Reese Witherspoon

Actress and producer Reese Witherspoon, who is a model of common sense for many, once ended up in jail due to her own stupidity.

In 2013, police stopped the car the actress was driving. Her then husband Jim Toth was driving. The police thought the driver was drunk and asked the couple to get out of the car. In response, the actress began cursing and insulting the law enforcement officers. She was accused of hooliganism, and later Reese even had to publicly apologize to the police. The actress recounted the incident in 2020 on the I Weigh podcast: “I did something really stupid. It was incredibly embarrassing. But you know what? It turns out I breathe air. I have blood running through my veins. I make stupid decisions. I make great decisions. I’m only human.”
