Dota 2 is a game with a history that is loved in different parts of the world. The community includes representatives from China, America, Europe, the CIS and even Africa. Each region has its own customs, favorite heroes and gaming jargon that you need to know and understand to be on the same page with everyone.
A person who has recently installed Dota 2 will not understand even half of the words that his teammates say to him. That is why we at the CQ.ru editorial office have compiled a dictionary. It will help not only beginners, but also more experienced players to express themselves freely during the game.
General gaming jargon

Roshan | A unit living in one of the caves on the map moves from one lair to another through a Twin Portal, depending on the time of day in the game. At night it is on the Dark side, during the day on the Light side. After death it gives bonuses. |
The Tormentor | A magical creature located on each side near the base. Appears after 20 minutes of the game. Upon death, gives gold to everyone and an aghanim shard to a random ally. |
The buildings

Barracks | Buildings in the base from which creeps emerge every minute |
Throne | The main building at the base. If you destroy it, the team wins. |
Fountain | The location in the base where the heroes start the game. |
Tower | A building on each lane that attacks creeps and protects the throne. |
Lotus Pond | The structure where lotuses appear. They are located on the bottom lane for the Light side and the top lane for the Dark side. |
Caretaker | A built-in ward on the map that needs to be captured by right-clicking on it. There are 10 of them located all over the map, 5 on each side. |
Paired Portal / Gate | A building that can be used to move to the other side of the map. It is located at the top left of the Dark side and at the bottom right of the Light side. |
Outpost | Neutral building on the map in the amount of 4 pieces. Provides a place for teleportation and an overview. |
Roles

Kerry / Cor | A type of character focused on farming and buying important items for the game, standing on the easy lane. They have a great responsibility for dealing damage to enemies. |
Mider | Characters occupying the central corridor of the map, playing 1 on 1 with the opponent |
Support | Support class characters who can heal, save and help the Kerry character |
Troika | A character standing in a hard lane. Typically, these are characters with a lot of health and the ability to initiate a fight. |
Four | A support that stands in the offlane, but has the ability to move around the map to help all allies. |
Five | A support whose role is to provide the Kerry with everything he needs, save him, or help him kill him. |

Glyph | A protection that is activated on creeps and towers, making them invulnerable. |
Ruth / Numbness | Interrupts movement, preventing movement, but items and abilities can be used. |
Silence | An effect that prevents a character from using abilities. |

Exhaustion | Disables the effect of passive abilities |
