Be careful with your brain! There are zombie games for PC that are a lot of fun to play and that no fan of the theme should miss. We are also fans of this type of game and, for that reason, we bring you this article! You will find a variety of fully recommended zombie games for PC. They range from single player or competitive online games to action, strategy and virtual reality. And zombies, of course, lots of zombies everywhere!
Note : the games do not follow any order of preference.
1. Resident Evil Saga
The entire Resident Evil saga, even with its ups and downs, is packed with incredible games that no fan of zombie killers should miss. In both horror and zombie games, the Resident Evil franchise is a benchmark. They are not the best games to enjoy a deep story and well-crafted plots, but the setting and playable mechanics are sensational.
Generally speaking, these games force us to manage resources properly and even to be wise about when to fight and when not to. With exceptions like Resident Evil 6, the series requires us to be patient and plan our progress. Zombies and other creatures can appear at any time, and you better be fully prepared!
In our point of view, the five Resident Evil that we recommend are:
- Resident Evil HD Remaster
- Resident Evil 2 (Remake)
- Resident Evil 4
- Resident Evil Revelations
- Resident Evil 7
2. Dying Light
Dying Light is pure adrenaline. This zombie game chose to use parkour as one of the main incentives, and thank goodness! When it comes to intensity, Dying Light is unmatched and requires you to bring out your best to survive. In addition to having to fight with firearms and in melee, your best allies will be running and jumping across the rooftops of this open world. Anything so that ferocious zombies don’t surround you!
The history of Dying Light is extensive and offers plenty of content for those who take the time to do all the tasks. The game is very much enjoyed alone and even adds more to the tension, but it is just as recommended to group up with other friends. If you are looking for a wild, fast and agile game in playable mechanics, Dying Light is your game.
3. Left 4 Dead 2
Anyone can survive a zombie apocalypse if three friends have their backs. Well, as long as some “accident” like shooting each other doesn’t happen! Left 4 Dead 2 is a game that gives rise to many afternoons of entertainment and frustration, especially in high difficulties or in competitive modes.
Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to the already excellent Left 4 Dead, and expands with new weapons, enemies, and maps. After a major update, the content of the first part is in Left 4 Dead 2. For that reason, today it is a very complete game and ideal to eliminate hundreds of infected per hour together with your friends. Let no one scare the Witch!
4. The Walking Dead
Telltale Games surprised us all with The Walking Dead, an impressive graphic adventure based on decision making. He is very easy to empathize with quite a few of the characters featured in the game, and he handles the stress of difficult situations perfectly. There are few times when an action causes the death of one or another character.
But The Walking Dead goes beyond life and death. It is about survival in a hostile world, in which it seems that humanity is disappearing. The game emphasizes the relationships between characters and the disparity in their personalities. All this allows scenes to be created that you will remember even years later, despite not being a exactly long game. It is very worth it!
The Walking Dead is made up of four seasons and a couple of extra stories. You can always The Walking Dead: The Telltale Definitive Series, which includes everything in one pack.
5. Killing Floor 2
For constant hordes of zombies, blood and guts everywhere, and powerful weaponry like few others, there is Killing Floor 2. The first part was a title that was liked a lot and that encouraged many groups of friends to get together and repel legions of zombies. The sequel improves on absolutely everything, with more enemies, weapons, classes, and better graphics.
Specifically, the classes have been retouched compared to the previous installment. In Killing Floor 2 there are more possibilities to refine your style of play and have a more specific role within the team of survivors. The arsenal of weapons is extensive, so you will not have a lack of options at all. And if you don’t want to play just online co-op, Killing Floor 2 has a short and very enjoyable competitive mode!
6. Dead Rising
A journalist involved in the very origin of an avalanche of zombies? It is the best opportunity to launch yourself to stardom! Believe it or not, because the Willamette Mall is anything but a pleasant and peaceful walk. In his quest to have the best story to tell the world, Frank West is forced to survive, rampaging through literally hundreds of zombies and rescuing survivors.
Dead Rising is a tremendously crazy game and not suitable for those who want to play calmly. Frank West has 3 days to complete tasks and prepare to escape, which translates to 6 hours of actual gameplay. There is everything at your disposal: soccer balls, baseball bats, firearms, electric saw and even vehicles. Trust us: to survive, you will have to use absolutely everything you have on hand!
In addition to Dead Rising 1, we recommend Dead Rising 2 and Dead Rising 2: Off the record. If you are passionate about these games, you will also have a great time with Dead Rising 3 and 4. Both have a more expanded mapping and do not have a time limit.
7. The Evil Within 2
With The Evil Within 2 we cheat a bit, as it is more of a psychological horror game. Anyway, the zombies make their appearance in the form of a very particular type of infected. The world of The Evil Within 2 is terrifying to say the least, and as with Resident Evil, be careful not to waste resources or mindlessly fight.
The story of The Evil Within 2 is very personal, as it addresses issues related to the protagonist’s family. The audiovisual section is exquisite and sets with great success a horror game in which the infected will complicate your life. Luckily, you can improve the character, so that little by little you will become a powerful fighter. Stay sane and pay attention all the time.
8. Dead Island
Dead Island places you on a tropical island that, while beautiful, the inhabitants are not friendly! In this game you will see different elements of role and survival. You are presented with an open world in which you will advance by acts, completing missions to develop as a survivor and help others.
As with other zombie games, Dead Island allows up to four players to play in one game. Of course, you should all be playing the same missions. Dead Island focuses much more on melee, so ammo and firearms are in short supply. That makes the game very wild, with bloody fights and easy to get hurt. You have to take good care of the distances!
Feel like smashing more zombie skulls? Dead Island Riptide is a sequel that is more of the same, plain and simple. If you liked the first Dead Island, the sequel is a good time to pass the time!
9. State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition
When a zombie apocalypse unleashes, what you want most is to have a safe place to rest and not worry about the infected. In a sense, State of Decay 2 is about that, inviting you to build a community, build a base, and defend it at all costs. To achieve this, it is vital to welcome new survivors and to launch in the search for resources.
State of Decay 2 knew how to improve on the basis of the first game and gives us an entertaining game. It’s more focused on survival and building than riotous action. It has its support for the cooperative, as an extra hand never hurts. In addition, the Juggernaut Edition includes a story mode and an extra cooperative mode to eliminate hordes and hordes of zombies.
10. Call of Duty Saga (Zombies mode)
Call of Duty is a renowned saga that does not require any introduction. It is true that they are war games and not zombies but, since World at War came out in 2018, the saga included a modality based on that theme. Over the years, Zombies mode has matured into a full story and playable experience.
The mission of Call of Duty Zombies mode is simple: stand side by side with your friends and resist as many rounds of hordes as you can. Over time, the zombies grow in numbers, strength and endurance, which will make you have to sweat more and more to overcome rounds. Fortunately, you will handle a character well prepared for the occasion!
In particular, we recommend that you play Black Ops Zombies Mode.
DayZ is everything you can imagine of a hostile world full of zombies. It is a multiplayer game for up to 60 players in which not only zombies are a threat. Players can be your best allies or your worst nightmare, resources are not always easy to find and even the weather or animals will turn against you.
It is a game that can be frustrating depending on the players in the game, but with a good group of friends it is a great experience. The elements of survival are very present in this game, as it is essential to find shelters and note where you can find each resource. Specifically, it is important to take care of yourself against injuries and illnesses. After all, if you die, you have to start over from scratch!
12. Plants vs. Zombies
Even the plants want to get rid of the zombies! The first Plants vs. Zombies emerged as a crazy idea, full of humor, but the proposal hooked many players around the world. It is a strategy game in which you must place different types of plants and improve them to defend your position. After each round, the reaction time is shorter, so you have to be smart!
In our opinion, Plants vs. Zombies 1 and Garden Warfare 2 are two excellent installments in the series. Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 is more shooter than strategy, as you handle the characters directly as in any third-person shooter. Of course, the Plants vs. Zombies is varied and incredibly entertaining!
13. They Are Billions
They Are Billions is a very long real-time strategy game, with more than 50 hours of guaranteed content. It proposes a totally dystopian apocalyptic world, in which there are only a few human colonies that have not been infected. You must work hard to create a new community, advance technology, and create the best possible army.
There is a whole story behind the pandemic, which you will discover with patience and persistence. It is necessary to adapt to any situation, since the number of infected is already given by the title of the game itself: there are billions! Although it sounds like an impossible challenge, the truth is that They Are Billions is a pleasant game to play for anyone who loves strategy and the zombie theme. Check it out!
14. World War Z
If you were wanting more after Left 4 Dead 2, World War Z is a similar game. It has its differences, of course. To begin with, the number of zombies you can see at any given time is overwhelming, as the game engine allows you to handle up to … 1000 zombies at the same time on screen!
Each player can choose character and class, then unlock new abilities or weapons as one progresses. It does not have a very complete system in that sense, as World War Z focuses more on giving us a complete cooperative experience. Each campaign is divided into missions and locations. To be successful, you must collaborate with the other players!
World War Z also has a good variety of competitive modes, in case you prefer to measure your skills against other players instead of the AI. Domination, Player vs Player vs Zombies or King of the Hill are just a few of the modes.
15. Project Zomboid
Project Zomboid has been expanding over the years to become a solid title, although it still has its flaws. It is a zombie game focused on crafting and searching for resources, with extra elements such as mood management. It is not an easy game, as it is common to die in many unexpected ways.
The range and scope of vision is a fundamental aspect in the game because, when it gets dark or you enter a building, it will be limited. You will need to explore very well and get what you need to eat, move around and fight the zombies. Project Zomboid can be played solo, multiplayer or even cooperative in split screen.
16. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners
- Only with virtual reality (VR)
We continue with the first virtual reality game that we present in the article. The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is another bet based on the famous comic that has given us so many products, and this time it gives us a new perspective. Thanks to VR technology, the battles against zombies are closer than ever. You can dismember the infected, and even impale them with sharp objects!
However, they are not the only enemies. You will move in various neighborhoods in New Orleans, which serve as the scene for a fierce conflict between different human factions. You must fight your way cleanly or stealthily and complete missions to accumulate precious resources. Similar to The Walking Dead saga by Telltale games, the price to pay for a share can be expensive.
17. Arizona Sunshine
- Only with virtual reality (VR)
We go from one VR game to another! While The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners is exclusively a single player game, Arizona Sunshine gives us the possibility to experience the game in multiplayer. It comes loaded with good content and enough incentives to spend many afternoons and nights destroying zombies in the American Southwest.
Although you can obtain more than twenty weapons, it is crucial to loot for ammunition and consumables. The control is quite well achieved and knows how to give us the feeling of being right there, fighting for our lives. You can explore and lose yourself in the environments, or just discover the entire history of Arizona Sunshine, divided into fragments. It’s up to you!
18. Zombie Army Trilogy
Nazi Zombie Army fans will know that the series derived from the excellent Sniper Elite, a sniper game. Well, after a few years, a sensational trilogy was released and 100% recommended for fans of zombie games and horde modes. The Nazis and Hitler return more angry and hellish than ever, and they must be stopped!
Being a compilation and remastering at the same time, this pack gives you many hours of entertainment. You will have a great time if you play cooperatively with your friends, since you can adjust the difficulty as you want. Whether you want to spend a few hours taking out zombies with ease or you want to face the most challenging zombie apocalypse in history, this trilogy is a great choice!
If you’re looking for something newer, Zombie Army 4: Dead War has also been released.
19. 7 Days to Die
As with Project Zomboid, 7 Days to Die is another game that has grown rich over the years. The playable mechanics are very similar to other titles already presented in this article, but it is much bigger and richer as a whole.
On the one hand, the RPG section is very complete. The possibilities of character development are enough and the skills obtained will determine the way you play. On the other hand, everything related to construction, the search for resources and survival is very well worked, with options that reach the unimaginable. 7 Days to Die is an excellent game to enjoy alone or in company!
In zombie games of this type, it is without a doubt one of the best. The most terrifying thing is that there are many types of zombies, each with specific characteristics and abilities. One minute you’re looking at three clumsy zombies; the next, a very fierce one chases you!
20. Zombie Night Terror
What if instead of fighting the zombies, you become the mastermind behind their actions? That’s what Zombie Night Terror is all about, an essential game for those who want to spread terror and chaos in the streets. It is a long game full of challenges that will make you rake your brain. Unfortunately, zombies are very dumb, so you have to be very clever!
It also includes a level editor, a more than successful detail to extend the life of this game. Laughter and unexpected moments are common, and we assure you that if you give Zombie Night Terror a try, you will stay hooked for weeks.
It’s not easy being one of the few survivors of a zombie apocalypse. One must eat and it is difficult to find food when surrounded by zombies and characters with a desire for war. For that reason, in Unturned it is vital to interact with the NPCs and complete missions, because only then will you progress and create a safe haven.
Unturned can be enjoyed in both solo and multiplayer, and each mode has its advantages and disadvantages. In any case, the exploration of the world is an important element. In fact, you can move freely on land, air and sea, all thanks to the variety of vehicles. If you use them well, no zombie will be able to eat you!
22. Daymare: 1998
Do you want to play a Resident Evil without it being Resident Evil? We believe that this is the best definition of Daymare: 1998, as it is clearly inspired by that saga. That implies that resources are not abundant and that a zombie can come out in any corner to end your life. Daymare 1998 offers a difficult zombie game with realistic dismemberment and tricky puzzles. Don’t stop looking behind you!
Deadlight is a 2.5D game that mixes zombie themes and platformer action. In addition to solving puzzles, in each situation that the game places you, you can choose different ways to overcome it. The character is skilled in various areas, so you can run and climb with ease, handle all kinds of weapons, traverse areas stealthily, and interact with the scenery.
Without going into more detail, Deadlight is a simple game that is worth trying, even if it is on sale. Of course, do not expect a long game or a well-crafted story.
24. Death Road to Canada
Death Road to Canada is perfect if you want to play a zombie game without many complications. Each game is generated with random elements, which ensures total replayability in this title. You can create your characters and then take to the battlefield for a single purpose: destroy endless hordes of zombies!
Thanks to randomness, even the events in each game change. For this reason, Death Road to Canada is unpredictable and tremendously fun, even more so if you enjoy this title in cooperative. Up to four players can play on the same PC!
25. The Typing of the Dead: Overkill
Not everything is shooting like crazy! We end the article with a different proposal. The Typing of the Dead: Overkill combines horror with hooligan humor, and instead of aiming and shooting guns, you must write words or phrases! That is to say: to eliminate the zombies, you have to be quick with the keyboard, or the brain-eaters will catch up with you and use you for dinner.
The tone of the game is a clear reference to B movies and he does not take himself seriously at all. The Typing of the Dead: Overkill is quite fun and does the job of entertaining without much pretense. As you beat the game, new challenges will be unlocked that will challenge your speed and precision when typing on the keyboard. It serves a lot of training!
