18 tips on how to motivate yourself in life

There are mornings when you get up and throw yourself into the daily tasks full of energy. At other times, even getting out of bed is difficult, and there is no inner drive to complete tasks at school, work, or home. The following 18 tips will help you find the motivation you need for everyday life.

1. Just get started and let the motivation come later!

It is not mandatory to sit and idle waiting for motivation. You can’t achieve results without work, so sometimes you just have to force yourself to start, then once you’ve immersed yourself in the specific activity, motivation often comes naturally. Appetite comes with eating – and motivation comes with work.

2. Start small if you are stuck with big tasks!

If a task seems too difficult, the best solution is to break it down into smaller tasks. It’s much easier to stay motivated when results come more often than just at the end of a larger task.

3. Tell others!

Tell your friends what you’re working on and ask one or more of them to ask how you’re doing at certain intervals. Believe me, you are much less inclined to slack off if you have to constantly report to someone. Instead of uncomfortable excuses, it feels better to present results.

4. Get motivation from your friends!

Spend less time with negative, pessimistic people and surround yourself with positive, motivated friends. Their energy and enthusiasm will soon rub off on you.

5. Get motivation from people you don’t know!

The source of motivation can be not only a close friend you know personally. There are tons of motivational books, blogs, videos, and audiobooks out there. Use them, read other people’s success stories and gain energy from them.

6. Play music that gives you energy!

Take a break a few times during the day and then put on fast, rhythmic music, something that cheers you up and/or inspires you in some way. You can then transfer the motivation you get from the music to the tasks to be done.

7. Don’t be too hard on yourself!

If you make a mistake, big or small, don’t let self-flagellation take up all your time and energy. This will only reduce your motivation and you will have even less desire to work. Learn to move on quickly.

8. Be constructive when you make mistakes!

Believe it or not, mistakes are also extremely important. Namely because you can analyze them and learn from them for the future. In this way, you will gradually become better and more efficient in the given activity. Remember: only those who work make mistakes!

9. Be yourself the standard!

Don’t measure your performance against others, look at where you started and where you got to.

10. Compete – but only playfully!

Make a small competition with one of your friends from the task you received at school or at work: who can complete the task faster. You can even come up with a small prize for the winner. In no case should the competition be bloody, let it be light and playful – the competitive spirit will still give you sufficient motivation.

11. Remind yourself of your goal!

When you’re low on energy and unmotivated, it’s easy to forget what your goal is, what you’re working towards. Take a 2-minute break and write down on a piece of paper the 3 main reasons why you are doing it all. Keep the original goal in mind! Keep this paper in a visible place where you do your work.

12. Be grateful for what you have!

When you have no motivation, you start to see negative things in every situation. To recharge yourself with positive energy and motivation, ask yourself: what are the 3 important things in your life that you take for granted, even though you should be very grateful for them? Shift your focus to what you have and don’t look at what you don’t have.

13. Stir the standing water!

Monotony and boredom are one of the biggest enemies of productive work. If your work environment has been looking the same for a long time, transform it! Arrange the office furniture differently, put up new posters, try new techniques, etc.

14. Make your workspace transparent!

Take a few minutes to make your workspace clean and transparent. Although many people like to say that they can see through the chaos on their desks, a clean, minimalist work environment can actually improve productivity.

15. Don’t forget to take a break!

There are few things in the world more demotivating than working non-stop. It is recommended to take at least 10 minutes of rest every hour – during this time you can eat a snack, take a walk, or go outside. Although at first it may seem that the many 10-minute rests are unnecessary, in fact, your work will become more efficient and faster because you will have more energy and will be able to concentrate better.

16. Move!

Regular exercise is not only good for the body – it is also extremely useful mentally. It eliminates stress, makes you focused and motivated.

17. Analyze before you jump in!

Learn from those who have been where you are going before. Analyze the steps of others, learn from their mistakes so that you do not fall into the same mistakes.

18. Go out into nature!

No, not into the concrete jungle, but into real nature. Winter or summer, get outside as often as you can. It relaxes, clears the mind and energizes.
