10 tips for anyone who has installed iOS 13

Perhaps the most notable change in iOS 13 is the dark theme – but that’s not all. In this article we will tell you about this and other innovations in the new operating system that will make your life more convenient.

1. Use a new dark theme

You can use iOS 13 in two skins: the classic light and the all-new dark. To switch between them:

Step 1.  Open “Settings”.

Step 2. Go to the “Display and brightness” section.

Step 3. Select the option “Light” or “Dark” in the menu section “Appearance”.

You can also change the theme of the interface by the time of day. To do this, move the “Automatic” switch to the active position and select the activation option: “From dusk to dawn” or “Schedule settings” to select a specific time.

Another interesting feature is wallpaper dimming. When used, they will look more harmonious in the context of a dark theme. This is especially useful if your wallpaper is in light colors. To activate the function, go to Settings> Wallpaper and turn the “Wallpaper Dim” switch to the active position.

2. Download files using Safari

IOS 13 introduces the ability to download all types of files from the Internet to use them through built-in and third-party applications. Here’s how to do it:

Step 1.  Open Safari.

Step 2. Go to the site from which you want to download the file.

Step 3. Hold your finger on it and select “Upload a file from a link”.

To the right of the address bar, a button will immediately appear to go to the “Downloads” menu, through which you can view and use the downloaded files.

You can also choose a standard folder where downloaded files will be saved. You can do this in Preferences> Safari> Downloads.

3. Edit text with gestures

After updating to iOS 13, you’ll get a whole bunch of new gestures to help you edit text. Here are the ones that are used most often:

Undo the last action – Swipe left with three fingers.

Redo an undone action – swipe right with three fingers.

Copying a fragment of text – select the desired fragment and pinch three fingers, as if you were grabbing something.

Paste the copied fragment – select the required place in the text and spread three fingers apart.

You can also open a dedicated text editing menu. To do this, press the screen with three fingers at once and hold them until the panel with useful actions appears.

4. Edit photos and videos in a new way

In iOS 13, developers have reimagined the image editor built into the operating system. It has a lot of new settings to help you enhance your shots. You can also process video recording – among the functions of the video editor there is even a flip of the video in the required direction.

Step 1.  Open “Photos”.

Step 2. Select the image to be processed.

Step 3. Click on the “Edit” button and select the required action.

5. Go to the selection of Wi-Fi networks from the “Control Center”

After upgrading to iOS 13, you will be able to quickly select the required Wi-Fi network or go to the wireless protocol menu in Settings via the Control Center. For this:

Step 1.  Open the “Control Center”.

Step 2. Hold your finger on the Wi-Fi icon.

Step 3. Select the required Wi-Fi network or go to the wireless protocol settings using the “Wi-Fi Settings” button.

In the same way, you can interact with the Bluetooth icon – quickly select the required device or go to the wireless protocol settings.

6. Download large applications over the cellular network

In iOS 13, it will be possible to download applications of any size via the mobile Internet. To remove the restriction:

Step 1.  Open “Settings”.

Step 2. Go to the “iTunes Store and App Store” section.

Step 3. Expand the Applications menu.

Step 4. Select the required download option for large applications:

  • Always Allow– download large applications over cellular networks without confirmation;
  • “Ask if more than 200 MB”– specify the possibility to download an application over 200 MB via cellular networks;
  • Always ask– always ask if you can download large applications over cellular networks.

When downloading large applications over cellular networks, pay attention to the tariffs of your service provider. We recommend using this feature if you have unlimited mobile internet.

7. Scan documents using the Files application

Previously, you could only scan documents through the Notes application and save them electronically in one of the notes in this application. After installing iOS 13, you can also do this through the Files app and save them as separate documents. For this:

Step 1.  Open “Files”.

Step 2. Swipe down from top to bottom.

Step 3. Click on the “…” button.

Step 4. Select the option “Scan documents”.

After that, you just need to point the viewfinder at the required document, wait for it to be detected and press the shutter button.

8. Extend iPhone Battery Life

IOS 13 introduces the ability to extend the battery life of your device using smart charging. To enable it:

Step 1.  Open “Settings”.

Step 2. Go to the “Battery” section.

Step 3. Expand the Battery Status menu.

Step 4. Move the “Optimized charging” switch to the active position.

With Optimized Charging, iPhone tries to predict when you’re going to take it out of charge, so it doesn’t keep the battery 100% full all the time.

9. Archive and unzip documents via “Files”

After installing iOS 13, you got the opportunity to fully work with archives in ZIP format – how to create them from existing files and extract documents.

This can be done through the Files app. Find the required document, hold it down and select the “Compress” option to create an archive.

You can also hold your finger on the archive and select “Unpack” to extract its contents.

10. Take a screenshot of the entire site

Another useful feature of the updated Safari is long screenshots of Internet pages, with which you can completely save an interesting news, article or instruction. To do this:

Step 1.  Open Safari.

Step 2. Go to the page you want to save.

Step 3. Use the standard keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot.

Step 4. Click on the screenshot thumbnail to go to its editing menu.

Step 4. Select the “Full Page” option.
