Programs to record voice from PC

Are you looking for programs to record voice from your PC , but you don’t know which solutions to rely on? No problem! I can help you. Below, in fact, you will find those that, in my humble opinion, represent some of the most interesting solutions of this type. Check them out and you won’t regret it!

Sound recorder

If you are using Windows 10 or Windows 11 and looking for programs to record voice on your computer, I suggest you first consider Sound Recorder .

This is the “standard” application of the latest operating systems from Microsoft, which allows you to create voice and audio recordings in general, as can be easily deduced from the name. It is totally free and is pre-installed on your PC (if removed or not present, it can still be downloaded from the Microsoft Store ).

To use Sound Recorder, click the Start button (the one with the Microsoft flag ) on the Windows taskbar and select the relevant link from the menu that appears.

Now that you see the application window on your desktop, grant Sound Recorder the necessary permissions to access the microphone (if required) and click the Start Recording button (the red circular one ) at the bottom to start recording.

If you deem it necessary, you can pause the recording by pressing the Pause button located at the bottom right. You can also decide to add a bookmark to mark a specific part of the audio file visible after recording is finished by clicking the Mark button . To stop recording permanently, however, click on the Stop recording button at the bottom left.

At the end of the recording, the generated audio file will be saved automatically, in AAC format, in the Documents> Windows Sound Recording folder and you can play it through the main screen of Sound Recorder, by selecting it in the list on the left and pressing the Play button . right. Optionally, you can also share the resulting audio file by clicking on the icon with the square and arrow at the top right and choosing the destination from the menu shown.

I also point out that if you want to create a recording using a microphone other than the default one, you must first select the correct device from the menu at the bottom left and that you can also adjust the microphone settings from the latter. If, on the other hand, you wish to manage the application settings, you must click on the (…) button , select the Settings item from the proposed menu and intervene through the new window displayed. .

Audacity

When it comes to programs for recording vocals, it is practically impossible not to mention Audacity . It is a terrific free and open source program for doing audio editing. With it, you can play, edit and revolutionize any type of music or audio file very quickly and easily. Among its infinite functions, there are also those that allow you to record the voice through the microphone of the PC and mix it with music or other audio narrations.

To download and install Audacity, connect to the program’s website and follow the instructions I have given you in my specific guide on the subject .

Subsequently, start the program by selecting the relative shortcut that has been added to the Windows Start menu and, once the window on the desktop is displayed, click on the REC button located at the top left, in order to start the audio recording , so use the microphone connected to your computer to record your voice.

If necessary, you can pause the recording by clicking on the Pause button at the top, while if you want to stop it permanently press the Stop button .

I also point out that you can use the effects available in the appropriate program menu to modify and / or refine what you record.

Furthermore, if you want to use a different microphone than the default one, you can do so via the appropriate drop-down menu at the top left (it should read Integrated Microphone ), while to change the volume of the recording you just need to use the adjacent adjustment bar.

When you have finished, click on the File menu at the top left and select the Export item from the latter, then define the output format from the window that opens, the location for saving and if necessary also enter the metadata. For more details, you can refer to my specific guide on how to use Audacity .
