10 Examples of Asexual Reproduction

Asexual reproduction is called that way of reproducing that various organisms have in which no other parent or specialized cells intervene for this purpose , such as male or female gametes.

It is the type of reproduction that different organisms have in nature, such is the case of simple or little-evolved organisms such as bacteria, fungi and other living beings, such as yeast among other beings. Likewise, more complex organisms use asexual reproductive systems, as is the case of some plants that reproduce in this way, such as potatoes or some orchids, among other plants that, regardless of whether they have sexual reproduction, can also reproduce through cuttings or suckers, that is, using only a part of the plant for the duplication of another plant.

There are different mechanisms by which asexual reproduction takes place.

Types of mechanisms for asexual reproduction:

  1. Tissue culture.
  2. Binary division
  3. Sporulation
  4. Fragmentation
  5. Binary Fusion or Bipartition.

It is through mechanisms of this type that several living beings reproduce asexually, and many of the organisms that use these methods of perpetuation of the species are beings that are classified as evolutionarily primitive, such as bacteria, some plants , animals such as sea sponges and corals among others, where the perpetuation of the species occurs without necessarily having sex organs or cells.

Among the living beings that have some type of asexual reproduction, we can find fungi, plants and animals, being beings like bacteria the most abundant with this way of reproducing.

Certain types of plants can have both sexual and asexual reproduction , this is the case of the onion or the vine, which although they can reproduce asexually, these have sexual reproduction through seeds. This type of coexistence between both ways of reproducing is quite common in different plants, therefore we can reproduce them both by sowing their seeds and by means of methods such as cuttings.
